They ere mostly become a victim of a $cruel environment, a broken%home family, of an ignorance, a curiosity or !articularly of the illegal drugs mafia. #t is estimated that around & million !eo!le in #ndonesia are illicit drug users ' about one in every () #ndonesians. A study by the #nternational *abor +rgani,ation -#*+. office in #ndonesia sho ed that around four !er cent of illicit drug users in the country are children under /0 years old. T o out of ten users are involved in illicit trafficking. Some teenagers start being involved in !roducing and trafficking drugs bet een the ages of /1 and /(. 2hairman of the 3ational 3arcotics 2oordinating 4oard said that the countrys illicit drug users include around 0,))) junior high school students, over /),))) senior high school students and about 5)) elementary school students. 3arkoba is the #ndonesian term for narcotics, !sychotro!ic and addictive substances. 6sychotro!ic substances or !o!ularly called 7cstasy and Shabu%shabu are considered favorites among the middle and u!!er class users. 4eside that, there are 8eroin, or kno n as 6uta , hich is chea!, !lentiful, but !otentially deadly. 6eo!le usually take drugs to have fun or esca!e the !ressures of life. 9rug users among students are !articularly orrying. #t as re!orted that a number of traffickers o!erate around schools by cheating, forcing or giving free illicit drugs to students. +nce the students are addicted, they then go to the traffickers to buy the illicit drugs. #f they do not have money, they steal it from their family members or others.
