Introduction Machining is a major manufacturing process in metal cutting industry.

In machining metal is removed by various operations results in high temperature of cutting tool and accelerates tool wear [Abhang and hameedullah 2010]. Both scientific and industrial research shows that the mode of cooling and lubrication of cutting area has a great influence on tool wear, tool life and surface finish of work piece. Amount of type of cutting and lubricating liquid significantly influence the tool life as well as dimensional accuracy and surface quality of machined parts [tadeusz leppert 2011].Due to economic and ecological costs, as well as health hazards associated with conventional flooding in metal machining is not very effective in production. minimum quantity lubrication in machining also known as near dry machining eliminates conventional flood cooling in machining.as the research shows complete elimination of cooling and lubrication in machining results in shorter tool life and deteriorates the mechanical and chemical properties of cutting edge[tadeusz leppert 2011]. Under these conditions minimum quantity lubrication is the only solution for hard turning in achieving less tool wear while maintaining cutting forces at reasonable rate. Approximately 85% of lubricants being used around the world are petroleum based oils, which has negative effects on environment. To overcome these challenges vegetable based lubricants are highly attractive substitutes for petroleum based lubricants. because they are environment friendly, less toxic, renewable and readily biodegradable [ shasidhara, jayaram 2010].
