ed like you to pray for Africa. That may be stating the obvious, especially as youre using our Prayer Diary! But wed also like to help you to pray. Recently I read a new book by Tim Chester, entitled You Can Pray (IVP). Enjoyment and prayer are words that are not normally associated together, but after reading You Can Pray you will not be able to separate them! Tims book is full of helpful insights into how we should pray, why we should pray and what we should pray. Its simple to read, yet not simplistic, as it engages deeply with the biblical text and also with contemporary issues. The book addresses many of the challenges that hinder us from praying and is jam-packed full of encouragement and tips on how we can become great pray-ers. Having been in full-time Christian ministry for over twenty years, both in Africa and in the UK, I wish this book had been available when I rst started out. It is a must-read for anyone who wants to make prayer easy, biblical and Godglorifying. Wed like you to pray for Africa and we hope this helps. Andrew Chard European Director

1-5 April

TUESDAY 1 APRIL When the opportunity rst opened up for AIM to send personnel into Mozambique, amidst all the physical hardships and deprivation, the request from church leaders was, Send us Bible teachers. This was their main priority. Give thanks that there are now two thriving Bible schools in which AIM is involved, with the potential for a third.

WEDNESDAY 2 APRIL Please pray for Inge Michel and Angelica Maddar (People & Places p17) who work at INTENA (Instituto teolgico evangelico de Nampula) in Nampula. Pray that the Lord would use them to train and encourage a future generation of pastors and church workers for the churches of Mozambique. THURSDAY 3 APRIL Not only England suered from oods and power cuts earlier this year. Please pray for Sofala Bible Institute (IBS), in Beira, where ooding and nightly power cuts (they hold classes at night during the week) meant the cancellation of classes. Please pray for Tim Wood, who is teaching there (People & Places p17). FRIDAY 4 APRIL A new Curriculum-Based Team will begin work in May in Lamego, a village of about

Country focus: Mozambique

ince independence from Portugal in 1975, Mozambique has been battered by civil war, economic mismanagement and famine. A peace deal in 1992 ended 16 years of civil war between the Frelimo and Renamo parties, and the country has made much progress in economic development and political stability. The Frelimo party has been in power since independence and tension with former Renamo guerrillas has persisted. Fighting ared up again recently ahead of elections in October this year. Against this backdrop, AIM work goes on. 6,000 Sena people in Sofala province. Please pray for the team as they are involved in evangelism and discipleship by developing relationships with the community using the Sena language, sharing chronological Bible stories and using their personal gifts and skills in community development. more workers to .grasp the opportunity to go forward, where we left o, as the McCorkells wrote.

6-12 April
SUNDAY 6 APRIL Lilian, Heather and Jeanette (South Africa) have ministered faithfully for many years on Mayotte. Pray the Lord would bless Lilians Bible translation in Shimaore. Pray, too, for Heather and Jeanette as they run a Christian bookshop and counsel the spiritually needy. The bookshop is a light on a spiritually dark island.

Island focus: Mayotte

MONDAY 7 APRIL Chris teaches 18 hours a week in a high-school. The level of English is painfully low. Being able to speak Kibushi with some of them has put a smile on their faces. Pray Chris could encourage the students and be a light in this secular environment. TUESDAY 8 APRIL Chris is the youngest in the Veterans football side, where talking football, BBQs and laughing (and arguing) takes up more time than playing. This is a great way to see lots of men regularly and build friendships that will hopefully bear fruit one day soon.

ayotte is a small island in the Indian Ocean. AIM has had a presence there since the 1970s. In 2011, Mayotte became the 101st department of France. There are approximately 200,000 people living on Mayotte, including workers from mainland France and many illegal immigrants from the neighbouring islands. The Mahorais either speak Shimaore or Kibushi (a Malagasy dialect) as their heart language. Folk Islam is the predominant belief system. There are very few known Mahorais believers. perseverance in language and boldness to speak Truth. Pray for the handful of believers in the village and wisdom, as we respond to their messy life situations.

WEDNESDAY 9 APRIL School is tough here; low literacy levels and unconducive living conditions being two of many factors. We oer an English evening class and tuition, as well as basic reading and maths support in French. Pray that our care for the youth in this village would be a signpost to Jesus. THURSDAY 10 APRIL Sarah regularly visits several women in the village. Some are open to hear Bible stories; others are completely closed to any spiritual conversation. Pray for

FRIDAY 11 APRIL We are the only workers among the Kibushi people. We need more teachers, youth workers and businessminded people to use their skills in the community. Mayotte is in the EU, so Europeans can live and work freely here. Pray that others would be sent out to join us in this gospel work.

SATURDAY 12 APRIL Praise God that our girls have transitioned back to island life very smoothly. Izzy and Esm are in school ve mornings a week and Iris in crche two mornings. They all love it. Pray for their continued safety, particularly when playing with local kids. Pray that we would prioritise family time.

13-19 April

People focus: The Lesotho Shepherds

n September, a male TIMO team will begin their bold and brave work in reaching the least reached people group of Lesotho, the shepherds, who live high in the mountains. The team will live and work amongst the Basotho shepherds for two years, sharing 31 biblical stories in the oral traditional shepherding language. We pray that the shepherds will receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour and, with their excellent tradition of story-telling, will pass on these stories across the Lesotho mountains.

SUNDAY 13 APRIL There are an estimated 60,000 shepherds. They live isolated lives high in the mountains, looking after sheep and goats belonging to others. As the TIMO team live with them for the next two years, sharing their lives and the gospel, pray that the shepherds will receive the Good News of Jesus.

SATURDAY 19 APRIL Lesotho is considered a Christian nation, although many who claim they are Christians struggle to be free of witchcraft and ancestor worship. Pray that the shepherds, after being saved, will go and make disciples of all in Lesotho.

MONDAY 14 APRIL Give thanks and pray for the men (three committed so far) who will be serving on the team. Pray for more men to join the team (were praying for eight). Pray for their boldness and faithfulness when living in the mountains, reaching souls despite many physical and spiritual hazards.

TUESDAY 15 APRIL Give thanks for AIM mission partners, Bekkah and Merrill. Over the past few years, they have recorded 31 biblical stories, which proclaim the gospel in the shepherding tribal language. Pray for the team, as they learn the language and the shepherds rich oral tradition, that they can be good

THURSDAY 17 APRIL Pray that the stock owners will grant the team permission to live at their cattle posts and work with their shepherds. The owners are wealthy and live in the larger towns or even South Africa. Pray that Sam can nd them and that they are willing for new team huts to be built.

FRIDAY 18 APRIL Stock owners pay witchdoctors to use their magic to protect the animals and shepherds from harm (lightning, snow, illness etc.). The shepherds believe strongly in witchcraft; the gospel will be a direct challenge

hepherds play a huge role in Scripture. Our prayer is that the shepherds of Lesotho, who are considered as outcasts, will respond to hearing the gospel in the same way that the shepherds did to the angels declaring Jesus birth they went and worshipped Jesus as King.

SUNDAY 20 APRIL University Work: God is really blessing our work with Christian university students across Scotland. Pray that many will hear his call to short- or long- term service in Africa and that each one who enquires will receive timely and relevant advice and assistance from Ruth in the Scottish Oce.

MONDAY 21 APRIL Prayer Groups: The Bishopbriggs prayer group meets this evening, one of 11 groups presently in operation around Scotland. Give thanks for all those throughout Scotland who faithfully support the work of AIM in these groups. Pray, too, that new groups will be raised up, especially in Lewis, Stirling and Dunfermline.

Mobilising Region: Scotland

cotland has historically been known as the Land of the Book. Many famous mission partners have left our shores to share this Book with the lost in other lands. AIMs founder, Peter Cameron Scott, left Scotland in 1895 to do just that. Today, nearly 120 years later, that tradition is continuing, and our team in and from Scotland is growing. AIM here is experiencing exciting times of blessing, for which we give God grateful thanks and praise. thanks for their faithful support and pray that God will bless their ministries locally, as well as globally. Pray also for those churches about to embark on a sending church journey, as members of their congregations apply for long-term service with AIM. FRIDAY 25 APRIL Retired Mission Partners: Give thanks for our many retired Scottish mission partners, who have served God faithfully throughout AIMs history (see People & Places p. 27). Pray that God will bless and encourage all those who have given us such a rich heritage and give thanks for the wealth of experience that many can still oer to new missionaries in preparation. from Scotland, who are serving God with AIM. Pray, too, for the large number of enquirers who are currently praying about their next step in mission, and for Ruth, as she engages at dierent levels with all these people.

WEDNESDAY 30 APRIL Student Work: Derek & Nerina Harborne and Zillah Whitehouse teach at Mbarara University, addressing the shortage of teachers. With the Skinners and Colin & Niki Gislason, they seek to disciple students and model the life of a Christian professional. Pray for real relationships with students as they start their careers.

FRIDAY 2 MAY Professional Development: Praise God for the many opportunities the team have to inuence young people at the start of their careers. ransformational Development springs from the idea that lasting, signicant change in peoples lives can only arise when their underlying ideas and attitudes are changed. Paul wrote: Be transformed by the renewal of your mind. The AIM team in Mbarara, SW Uganda, encourages transformation by forming godly relationships with individuals, and walking alongside them in their professional and personal lives. Together, they seek to learn more of God and his desires for individuals and community.

People focus: The Mwani

he Mwani of northern Mozambique, as well as following Islam, are heavily inuenced by witchcraft and fear of the spirit world. Tim & Bron Heaton, with Katie (9) and Jamie (6), are involved in discipling a handful of believers, teaching English and Bible Storying. In January, they were joined in Pemba by Victor & Grace Chang from Canada.

SUNDAY 4 MAY Most houses in Pemba are built on sand, with no foundations. The Heatons were reminded of the Bible parable, as several houses came tumbling down in the rain. Tragically, nearby, a brick wall fell one night crushing two teenagers in their beds. Please pray for their families.

MONDAY 5 MAY Rains also bring much malaria and other sicknesses. They ask you to pray for the people and country of Mozambique, that God would protect, comfort and lift them out of the cycle of poverty.

IM wants to build a Curriculum-Based Team in Pemba to work with the Mwani. For nancial reasons Rusty & Kristen McClenahen were not able to make the January start date. Theyre also now expecting a third child. Please pray for guidance as to when and how their future will work out this year.

TUESDAY 6 MAY Victor & Grace left Canada in -40 and arrived in tropical Mozambique to over 30. There has been a lot of adjusting for them! As Victor said Its one thing to read about poverty and be told what to expect and a totally dierent thing to experience it. WEDNESDAY 7 MAY Tim & Bron have also led the Changs through the LAMP course in how to learn an unwritten language, like Kimwani. It can be tough and humbling when a language helper or neighbour shouts and repeats a word ten times, until you can say it properly. Pray for grace and perseverance.

THURSDAY 8 MAY Give thanks for answered prayer, as Jamie and Katie started International School in January. Mum and Dad literally sang praises to God when Katie said maths is fun! Homeschooling maths had been a struggle.

FRIDAY 9 MAY Rusty & Kristen McClenahen not joining the team was unexpected. The Heatons write: If God wants them to be a part of the Mwani work, then he will make a way. Pray for us to have wisdom with the tricky decisions that these changes could mean.

Im still here in England, but God is there. Ministry focus: New Members

hris Klompas, is a member of Spalding Baptist Church, and a graduate of Faith Mission Bible College. He was accepted into AIM membership in January. We anticipate that Chris will join the Extreme Shepherd TIMO Team in Lesotho, which is due to commence in September 2014 under the leadership of Sam & Leanna Williamson (See 13-19 April). In order for the team to share the gospel with the shepherds, they will need to learn their language and submerge themselves in their culture. Chris sent us the prayer requests above.

SATURDAY 17 MAY We will be a small but international team and have yet to meet each other. Relationships between us will be as important as those with the shepherds. Pray that God would prepare us for the challenges well face in working closely together, isolated from other Christian fellowship most of the time.

Ministry focus: Pastoral care

THURSDAY 22 MAY Pray for safe travel on the many journeys clinicians make. They attend

rofessional counsellors and psychiatrists, who are missionaries, sta the Tumaini Counselling Centre. They support missionaries working in dicult, isolated, sometimes dangerous situations, and in the front-line of spiritual attack. Tumaini oers on-eld support to equip missionaries to resume their ministry. Sta work with people when they experience personal crises, marriage problems, family stresses, or traumatic events. Many resume work without having to leave the eld.

25-31 May
SUNDAY 25 MAY AIM Korea missionaries: Please pray that all our Korean mission partners would be lovers of Jesus Christ, so that they devote themselves to obey him, preach the gospel and make disciples of Jesus through their ministries.

MONDAY 26 MAY Regional branches: Please pray that AIM Korea would be able to appoint some mobilisers, who can set up AIM Korea branches in their regions to pray for AIM workers and for recruiting and helping missionary candidates.

Mobilising Region: Korea

TUESDAY 27 MAY Korean Church: Please pray that the Korean Church may experience spiritual revival through repentance of sins. Pray, too, that the zeal for world missions would be revived and that she might take the role of eectively being the light and salt of Korean society well.

IM Korea was set up in 1985 when Dr. Dick Anderson visited Korea. Dr. Son, the founder of the Missionary Training Institute (MTI), was the rst director and other ladies followed as secretaries after him. It was in 2009 when God called Hey Ran & John Kang from the mission eld in Uganda to serve AIM Korea as director. AIM Korea has been designated as a council since 2010 and has 12 council members who direct and support the work of the oce. serve him in Africa, especially among unreached people groups. FRIDAY 30 MAY Training missionaries: Please pray that missionary candidates would be equipped with skills in personal evangelism and making disciples and that they may learn English well. Being able to speak English uently is necessary in order to interact with fellow missionaries, even where Korean mission partners will learn and use African languages day to day.

WEDNESDAY 28 MAY North Korea: Please pray that the Lord would strengthen North Korean Christians even under severe persecution. Pray also that the Lord would allow the unication of the North and South, that closed churches in North Korea would be reopened and that the gospel would be preached freely.

People focus: The San

round Tsumkwe, Namibia, you will hear the distinctive clicks of the San languages, nd God at work and some surprises. Arriving in one village, we saw few people. Slowly they drifted in from the bush - dressed in skins, with bows and arrows and holding children. They looked toward us; bashful and embarrassed. Quickly they exchanged skins for football shirts and bows for cell phones. Someone explained: they were working on a documentary and the makers required them to wear the skins of another era.

Southern Region Executive Ocer, John Barry, shared these prayer requests following a recent survey trip: SUNDAY 1 JUNE Zeka & Anita Tijwana are the team leaders for the San TIMO team. Please pray for them and their twin daughters, as they prepare for the teams arrival.

MONDAY 2 JUNE Thank God for Eagle Post village, 25 km from Tsumkwe. Many villagers meet to pray, sing, study and worship God, the result of a church called Christ Love Ministries. Visitors see that this is a village with purpose and dignity. Thank you Lord! Please pray for the neighbouring villages N!om/om and Den/ui. TUESDAY 3 JUNE On Sunday I joined around 100 San people at a local church in Tsumkwe. Later I visited Pastor Gerrie at home. He and his wife have two children, yet care for more than ten. Please pray that God would continue to sustain this family, their ministry and the children they provide for.

WEDNESDAY 4 JUNE Koos is remarkable - he speaks eleven languages, including the seven San dialects around Tsumkwe. What a gift - to be able to cross eleven cultural boundaries for God. Please pray that he might know Gods leading, as he serves him and stewards his God-given gifts for the Body of Christ.

Almost one third drop out during the year, for lack of uniform or because of alcohol addiction. There are seven churches but 100 small shebeens selling alcohol. Please pray that teachers sense a call from God to reach out to young people and that teaching becomes ministry.

SATURDAY 7 JUNE Today many in the Ju/Hoansi San community will watch or listen to Premiership football supporting Man Utd, Chelsea etc. Its easy to think we are worlds apart, but if football can unite us, how much more Christs love? Give thanks for our brothers and sisters among the San. God has placed us in one family.

TUESDAY 10 JUNE Please pray for the three ME students from Belfast going to Kapsowar, Kenya later this month: Jill Fulton, Lynsey Harrison, and Rachel Calvin. Pray for them as they prepare and that they adjust well to the culture when they arrive.

FRIDAY 13 JUNE Praise God for the high number of short-termers who have chosen to extend assignments. Many of these decisions have been made because of fruit that they are seeing in the relationships built.

People focus: The Bara

8 people groups are native to Madagascar, each with their own dialect, customs and history. The 600,000 Bara people live across south-central Madagascar in small villages, many only accessible on foot. The March 2013 Prayer Diary featured a prayer request for more missionaries to work among them. Praise God that a team is now settled in Betroka, a town central to the Bara area, learning language and preparing to begin a holistic ministry, combining practical skills with Bible teaching and discipleship.

SUNDAY 15 JUNE After a coup in Madagascar and a four-year transition period, a new president has been elected. He promises to address employment, education and infrastructure. Pray his leadership will bring security and an improved future for the Bara. Pray that Bara village leaders will seek God and communities will be transformed.

WEDNESDAY 18 JUNE For the Bara, all decisions revolve around ancestor spirits. Many have never heard the gospel. Pray for Christ to break these strongholds and the truth to set people free. Pray that God will send workers to the hardest-to-reach places. Pray for those willing to go, but restricted by constant bandit attacks on the roads.

SATURDAY 21 JUNE Pray for the teams children, that they would feel secure in an isolated, unstable environment. Pray they would have opportunities to share their faith and that God would be very real to them. Why not choose a child to pray for regularly? Sara (12), Aurore (11), Jason (10), Maud (9), Isaac (6), Maria (4), David (2) and Elliot (1).

MONDAY 16 JUNE Pray for women who have few rights and are often abused. Pray they will have the courage to come for help, as the team develop a ministry to support them. Praise God that he can redeem the shame and pain they feel.

TUESDAY 17 JUNE Pray for young people. Promiscuity is high and many are fatalistic in outlook. Others are keen to see their country change, but there are many barriers. Pray that, rather than rejecting their culture, they will see Gods purposes in and through it. Pray for opportunities to disciple them and that God will change hearts for his glory.

THURSDAY 19 JUNE Pray for the Baras material needs. Praise God for the transformational development training the team have received and pray they can put this into practice, living lives rooted with an identity in Christ, using the gifts he has given. Pray people will seek transformation through faith in Jesus.

Pray that, as the Bara hear the gospel, they will be set free from these strongholds and pursue faith in God alone.

FRIDAY 20 JUNE Praise God for SILs Bible Translation; Luke is nished and Acts and Colossians begun. Pray for those sharing the word with the Bara, that they would have wisdom in using the written word with an oral people group. Pray, too, for the preparation and delivery of Chronological Bible stories.

SUNDAY 22 JUNE Hundreds of thousands of displaced people are struggling to nd food, water and shelter. Pray for them to come to salvation through their suering and be cared for this year. It will be a long time before they can rebuild their lives. MONDAY 23 JUNE South Sudan is a country open for Christian witness and ministry into people lives. Please pray The Lord of the Harvest would send more workers, while the doors are wide open.

TUESDAY 24 JUNE Nicola Limburger (People & Places p.6) works in Rumbek region, isolated from the majority of AIM missionaries. Rumbek struggles with tribal conict and cattle raiding feuds, in which many are shot. Pray for her in her medical ministry and relationship building among the Dinka.

outh Sudan is the worlds youngest country, having celebrated independence from the Republic of Sudan, on 9 July 2011, born amidst high hopes for the future. Following the break down in peace in December 2013, many people lost loved ones, homes, elds and possessions. Peace and reconciliation are desperately needed. The Church has a key role to play in bringing healing to both physical and emotional wounds. FRIDAY 27 JUNE As war broke out, a new TIMO team arrived to reach the Lopit people. They had just ten days in their villages, but have since returned to re-start their time with these lost people. Pray for the Lord to use them there. SATURDAY 28 JUNE Please pray for our workers in Torit: Jordan & Andrea Scotland and family (Canada), discipleship ministry; Russ & Lyn Noble adult literacy (People & Places p.6); Ray & Jill Davis (USA) - encouraging national evangelists and missionaries to the unreached. SUNDAY 29 JUNE Jacob Borgelt (USA), is living among the unreached Laarim alone, language learning and translating Bible stories. Pray for him, as he struggles with loneliness and hardship in a very remote location, and that he would soon have colleagues.

WEDNESDAY 25 JUNE The Didinga are unreached, hardened to the gospel by alcohol abuse, cultural and witchcraft inuences. Pray for Abbi Banham, Amber Harvey, Kim Davey (all USA), and Geo & Pat Hartley (Unit Leaders S. Africa) as they seek to reach them. THURSDAY 26 JUNE Torit has fairly large churches, but many are spiritually and theologically weak, with some false teaching. Pray for the AIC church leadership to be willing to be taught good, strong, rm biblical truths to pass on.
