Henry Schein Espana supports Zerca y Lejos NGO in Cameroon

Madrid 20 March 2014 - Henry Schein Espaa, leading provider of products and services to office based dental, medical and veterinary professionals announced today that the Company collaborates once more with Zerca y Lejos NGO. During last weeks Expodental tradeshow in Madrid, Henry Schein Espana, informed customers about our collaboration with the NGO Zerca y Lejos and its crucial dental project in Cameroon at the exhibition stand and a raffle for the good cause was organized.
This initiative is part of Henry Scheins global corporate social responsibility programme. Henry Schein Cares helps increase access to care for underserved populations. Health care activities supported by Henry Schein Cares focus on three main areas: advancing wellness, building capacity in the delivery of health care services, and assisting in emergency preparedness and relief. This is a perfect fit with Zerca y Lejos focus on health and education. Zerca y Lejos works closely together with the University of Yaound to build up an educational dental program in Cameroon. Zerca y Lejos dental program does not only consist on developing education to form new doctors but also delivering dental health to the most recondite towns of Cameroon. Henry Schein has been working together with Zerca y Lejos since 2009 helping to develop their oral health program in Cameroon.

Expodental was a good opportunity to get to know Zerca y Lejos and their great work in Cameroon., dice Juan M. Molina, Director General de Henry Schein Espaa y Portugal. We were able to draw attention to the organisations oral healthcare program in Cameroon to a lot of dental professionals. We received a a very positive resonance and great interest of our customers and hope that we were able to help Zerca y Lejos raise awareness for their great work. 99% of staff and Zerca y Lejos is voluntary. Zerca y Lejos carries out a broad range of work through its four programs: health, education, infrastructure and basic dwelling, and socio-economic development. The NGO addresses numerous public health issues such as intestinal worm infections and malaria. They provide immunizations and primary health care, dental care, perform surgery, and train health workers and partners to improve existing or deliver new health services. Zerca y Lejos has trained hundreds of "health agents" who now promote health in local communities. In addition, the NGO improves access to potable water and sanitation, helping build wells, latrines, drinking fountains, and rainwater catchment tanks.
