Basic Design

Extracting from Components Groups

Description
The functions Split STI, Modify STI End and Delete in the Planar menu of Basic Design and Planar Hull have previously only accepted to update groups of components. This is now changed, allowing the user to toggle within the function to select either an individual component or a group of components. Furthermore, the function Modify STI End is updated to use the users indication point to select which end to be modified, In cases when this is not possible (e.g. when indicating in a cross section view) the end is asked for as previously.

Benefits
The changes simplifies the modelling activities.

Compatibility Constraints
None.

Registering Surfaces
Description
A new Surfaces function has been added to the Project menu. This opens the Register Surfaces dialog, which lists surfaces previously registered by Initiate Hull Standards or by Basic Design. It also lists other native surfaces released from Tribon Lines or Tribon Surface/Compartment, which have not yet been registered for use by Basic Design. These can be registered using this dialog.

Benefits
Previously, surfaces released from Lines or Surface/Compartment had to be registered using Initiate Hull Standards. It is now possible to register them from Basic Design where native surfaces are listes.

Compatibility Constraints
None.

Functional Structures - RSO Properties

Description
The Reference Surface Objects (RSO) are objects normally created in Surface/ Compartment e.g. to represent boundaries of a Compartment. Since before, these RSOs have been used for location and references when generating planar steel. It is now also possible to turn the RSOs into Functional Structures, with properties such as its function, the material data, end connections, etc. This functionality forms the basis for the automatic generation of panels described in a separate release note. The properties of the RSO are added using the new function Functional Structure / Edit, which presents all RSOs in a tree browser and makes them available for this edit operation. The data structure of the RSOs is with this service pack changed to fit the new functionality. To get this functionality on existing RSOs created in Surface/Compartment, they have to be released again from the SP4 version of Surface/Compartment.

Benefits
Properties on the RSOs are the basis for automatic functions such as the automatic generation of panels.

Compatibility Constraints
None.

Functional Structures - RSOs Created in Basic Design

Description
The Reference Surface Objects (RSO) are objects normally created in Surface/ Compartment e.g. to represent boundaries of a Compartment. With this release it is now possible to also use Basic Design to create RSOs consisting of one face in principle planes, thus forming the main structures of a ship. It is possible to turn the created RSOs into Functional Structures by assigning them appropriate properties. They are also accessible for usage in Surface/Compartment. RSOs created in Basic Design can be Moved, Recreated and Copied. All functions described above are available by a click on the right-button on the mouse when in the function Functional Structures / Edit.

Benefits
Simplified handling of RSOs.

Functional Structures - Generate Panels on RSOs

Description
A Reference Surface Objects (RSO) can now be assigned finctional properties, thus turning it into a Functional Structure. These structures can form the basis for a first steel model with planar panels. The new function Functional Structure / Generate Panels reads all RSOs, checking if a functional description is set and if automatic generation is requested . If this is the case, panels are automatically generated. The generated panels can be used as a first modelling attempt. All the planar hull tools for creation and modification are thereafter available for further modelling activities.

Benefits
A first steel structure is generated with very little effort.

Compatibility Constraints

Disconnect Panels from RSOs

Description
A new function Functional Structure / RSO / Disconnect is added that disconnects an indicated or all panels that are depending on the RSO for their location. The new location will be derived from the panel plane and will be either a position along one of the principal axes, or three points. Internal references to the RSO (within e.g. the Boundary of the panel) are not translated. These changes must be made manually by the user.

Benefits
Simplifed usage of RSOs.

Compatibility Constraints
None.

RSO from Backdrop

Description
The function to turn a drawing view into a model view as a backdrop for modelling work has been updated. The function now also allows the user to set the scale of the view. Once the Backdrop view is created, the new function Functional Structure / RSO / From Backdrop can be used. The function will generate a RSO based on the view information and add all geometry information within this view as marking on the RSO. The resulting RSO can be used as any RSO, presenting the geometry information in any selected projection.

Benefits
Better visualization tools.

Compatibility Constraints
None.
