Campus/District: West Date: 2/5/13 Mesquite High School/MISD Overall Goal of Lesson: The student will learn how to conduct a database from the information presented in the PowerPoint Presentation. Instructional Objectives: The students will be evaluated based on their knowledge of creating databases in Microsoft Access. The students database is based off of the Celebrity assignment demonstrated in class and then practiced on their own. Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills (TEKS) & ELPS: 130.114. Business Information Management I (One Credit). (7) The student applies data entry techniques to enter information in databases. The student is expected to: A. Access information in the database system; B. Build data in a data warehouse; C. Create a meaningful data set; D. Enter data into databases, tables, and forms; E. Edit data in databases, tables, and forms; F. Create an interface user form for easier entry of data; and G. Import and export databases. Higher Order Questions: 1. Distinguish between the importance of using Microsoft Office versus Microsoft Excel. 2. Transform the information from the database into a query report. 3. Construct a database based off of the information given on the Celebrity handout. Student Activities: The students will be completing a notes worksheet based off of the Introduction to Microsoft Access PowerPoint. They will then follow along with the Celebrity demonstration. Then they will complete the remainder of the

Celebrity assignment on their own. Modifications/ELL Strategies Anticipatory Activity for Lesson: -Look up the definition for the 3 STAAR Vocabulary Typed Notes words, type each definition, and write a sentence for each More Class time for word using the vocabulary word in the sentence. assignment/tests Visual and Spoken Instructions Time Teacher Input/Lesson Activity: The students will complete their notes worksheet as I present an introductory PowerPoint Presentation on Microsoft Access. The students will learn the basic terminology and concepts to databases through the presentation. The lesson includes information on Tables, Foms, Queries, Reports, Pages, Macros, and Modules. From the content provided in the presentation, the student will complete a database in Microsoft Access. Modeling: I will give a demonstration of how to set up a database for one celebrity on the Celebrity assignment. Guided Practice: The students will complete the next celebrity on their own and then we will review it as a class. Independent Practice: The students will complete the remaining celebrities on the database. Lesson Closure: The students will discuss what they learned in Access so far and complete their Access vocabulary. Assessment Methods/Strategies: There will be no closure activity today.
