Schizophrenia is one of many quite common mental disorder found in civilization.

Though there is no reliable evidence, it is believe that schizophrenia cases can be found more severe in men than women. People suffering schizophrenia will feel hard to think clearly, to differentiate real and unreal things and events. They also have less normal emotion response and in some circumstances, they can act weirdly. In some light cases, its hard to realize that the people suffer schizophrenia since light symptoms might be quite equal with freakiness. Since its hard to be detected, its also hard to find the real causes of schizophrenia. It is found that if people have family members with the same disease, they will be easier to develop schizophrenia. Schizophrenia can also occur when the people face some events which potentially trigger the disease. It is even harder to detect schizophrenia in children, since the symptoms are often mistaken as autism, and the symptoms will just arouse at the age of five. Schizophrenia symptoms usually develop slowly with irregular pattern of occurrences. The most common situations which are possessed by the sufferer are problems with anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts or behaviors. The first symptoms occur usually are easily irritated or tense feeling, trouble in concentrating and trouble sleeping. Later, the symptoms develop into bizarre behaviors, hallucinations, isolation, lack of emotion, problems in paying attention, delusions, and loose associations. Symptoms also develop according to the type of schizophrenia they suffer. People with paranoid schizophrenia may feel anxiety, anger or arguing, and false beliefs that others are trying to harm them. Disorganized schizophrenia symptoms may include childlike behavior, problems in thinking and explaining ideas, and lack of emotion. People with catatonic schizophrenia usually suffer grimacing or other odd expressions on the face, lack of activity, rigid muscles and posture, and lack of respond to others. Undifferentiated schizophrenia may include symptoms of more than one other type of schizophrenia. Since it is hard to be detected and the symptoms are quite unsure, there are no specific medical tests to find whether a person suffer schizophrenia. The most usual test used is in the form of interview with the sufferer and the other family member about the symptoms that occur and about the family history of schizophrenia. To check whether they really suffer schizophrenia, they also have brain scan such as CT or MRI. Schizophrenia is a long-life illness so most sufferer has to take the medication all the time. Symptoms may occur again if the sufferer stops the medication. Antipsychotic medication is the

most effective way to prevent the symptoms because it balances and control the brain system. However, side effect such as dizziness, jitters, sleepiness, slowing movement, tremor, and weight gain may occur. Uncontrollable movement especially around the mouth, called tardive dyyskinesia, may also occur. The highest dosage of antipsychotic is called clozapine, which is very effective in reducing the symptoms. Yet the side effects caused are also more severe than other antipsychotic. There is no way to prevent schizophrenia, the only thing can be done is to prevent the symptoms to occur for the sufferer. A regular consultation with a therapist is also very helpful in preventing the symptoms.
