Main Dish- Pick One


Make an Idiom poster- pick an idiom and create a poster that illustrates the literal meaning of an idiom. For example, the idiom He put his foot in his mouth could be illustrated with a picture of a leg stretched all the way up to a persons mouth (NO, you cannot use this example!). Must show creativity! You must also write a brief paper explaining the meaning of the idiom and how/when it might be used. Make a PowerPoint that explains each of the different elements of figurative language (must include simile, metaphor, personification, hyperbole, alliteration, onomatopoeia, idioms and euphemisms. You can also include proverbs and adages for a bonus.) Create a flip book of the different elements of figurative language (must include a slide for each element of figurative language- simile, metaphor, personification, hyperbole, alliteration, onomatopoeia, idioms and euphemisms. You can also include proverbs and adages for a bonus.). Must include the definition, an example and an illustration. Make a cartoon strip with Onomatopoeia. Draw pictures where characters and objects make sounds like the following: "buzz," "bang," "poof," "slurp," and "crash." Include the words as part of the dialog in the comic strip. Make a restaurant menu using alliteration for food names. Write descriptions of food items, each word beginning with the same sound. Arrange them on a menu with prices and pictures. For example: Salmon with spicy sesame seed sauce or cheesy chicken chimichangas.

Complete the Put on Your Thinking Cap activity sheet then then design your own thinking cap and describing its features. Complete one of the idiom crossword puzzles, then create one of your own using different elements of figurative language. Complete the Youre the Apple of My Eye activity sheet then draw a picture illustrating one of the sayings. Complete a figurative language practice packet

Desserts- Pick One


Write a song about the different elements of figurative language (must all the different elements of figurative language we have learned/reviewed). Write a poem containing 4 or more elements of figurative language. Find the lyrics to a song online that contains figurative language. Label the elements of figurative language in the lyrics. Complete the Figurative Language Scavenger Hunt here: https://sites.google.com/a/sau73.org/ms-asciola/figurative-languagescavenger-hunt You must watch all 13 videos (they are short) and identify the elements of figurative language contained in each. You will be given a sheet to record your answers.
