"peech data such as added +ords, dictation and navigation $acros, and your personal voca'ulary Alanguage $odelB are $igrated to 7ia7oice Millenniu$. 5o+ever, your 7ia7oice enroll$ents are not $igrated and cannot 'e used 'y 7ia7oice Millenniu$. 1ou +ill 'e as?ed to run the Analy;e My 7oice 4i;ard and create a ne+ 7oice Model. I) you install $ultiple language versions o) 7ia7oice Millenniu$, +e reco$$end that you install the !.". .nglish version )irst, i) applica'le. I) you have already installed a 7ia7oice Millenniu$ product on your co$puter, you should have created a !ser and 7oice Model. 5o+ever, i) you have !ser data )or 7ia7oice 9D on another co$puter that you created prior to installing 7ia7oice Millenniu$, you $ay +ant to $igrate your personal speech data so you can use it +ith the current product. "peech data such as added +ords, dictation $acros, and your personal voca'ulary Alanguage $odelB are $igrated to 7ia7oice Millenniu$. Bac?up the !ser data )ro$ the previous product, using dis?ettes, )ro$ ViaVoice Options 'y selecting the Backup 'utton on the User ta'. Restore this !ser data on the co$puter +ith 7ia7oice Millenniu$ installed )ro$ ViaVoice Options 'y selecting the Restore 'utton on the User ta'. 1our 7ia7oice enroll$ents are not $igrated and cannot 'e used. 1ou +ill 'e as?ed to run Analy;e My 7oice 4i;ard to create a ne+ 7oice Model. A)ter 7ia7oice has accu$ulated a signi)icant sa$ple o) your dictated speech data, you are as?ed i) you +ould li?e to process the in)or$ation to i$prove your personal voice $odel. !sing this approach, 7ia7oice i$proves your voice $odel 'ased on the +ords you chose to dictate rather than having you read so$e pre%de)ined teCt. /nal*,in1 3our 0ocuments A)ter you set up your $icrophone and teach 7ia7oice ho+ you spea?, the !ser 4i;ard +ill +al? you through the steps to analy;e your docu$ents. 4hen you analy;e your docu$ents, 7ia7oice +ill ad(ust to your +riting style and search )or +ords that are not currently in the 7ia7oice voca'ulary. 7ia7oice +ill then as? you i) you +ant to add these +ords to your personal voca'ulary. 1ou can have 7ia7oice analy;e your docu$ents at any ti$e 'y selecting the /nal*,e M* 0ocuments $enu ite$ )ro$ the ViaVoice, ools $enu. By analy;ing the +ay you +rite and dictate, 7ia7oice adapts to your +riting style. 'ind New Words "o$eti$es you $ay +ant to analy;e the current docu$ent you are +or?ing on. 8or eCa$ple, the docu$ent $ay contain several +ords or acrony$s that $ay not 'e in your personal voca'ulary. 4ith 7ia7oice Millenniu$, you can open one o) these eCisting docu$ents and select 'ind New Words $enu ite$ )ro$ ViaVoice, ools $enu. 7ia7oice )inds the ne+ +ords and, i) necessary, +ill as? you to pronounce the$ 'e)ore adding the$ to your personal voca'ulary. 7ia7oice Millenniu$ even ta?es into consideration the conteCt in +hich the +ords are used so that it ?no+s ho+ they $ight 'e used in the )uture.

'ast 4ditin1 and (orrection+ Many people pre)er to $a?e corrections 'y editing the docu$ent rather than using the Correction 4indo+. -here)ore, 7ia7oice Millenniu$ has 'een designed to learn )ro$ your corrections, +hether you do the$ $anually or use the Correction 4indo+. I) +ords that are added to the docu$ents $anually are not in your personal voca'ulary, +hen the docu$ent is saved, 7ia7oice +ill as? i) you +ant to add the ne+ +ords to your personal voca'ulary. 7ia7oice then updates your personal voca'ulary +ith the ne+ +ords, including the conteCt in +hich they +ere used so that the neCt ti$e these +ords are dictated, they +ill 'e recogni;ed correctly. 7ia7oice Millenniu$ allo+s $ultiple +ays to correct teCt. 4hen in "pea?*ad or Microso)t 4ord, say =Correct KteCtL= to open the 7ia7oice Correction 4indo+, +here you can choose )ro$ a list o) alternate +ords to correct KteCtL. Another option is to select the +ords and then type the correct teCt. 1ou can also select the incorrect +ords and then re%dictate the correct teCt. By using this $ulti%$odal approach to correction, +e decreased the ti$e it ta?es to $a?e corrections.

Installing a 7ia7oice 9D or earlier version progra$ over 7ia7oice Millenniu$ is not reco$$ended. 1ou should uninstall 7ia7oice Millenniu$ prior to installing the 7ia7oice 9D or earlier version progra$. 4hen 'ac?ing up or restoring a user using 4indo+s 9EG9D, the speech 'u''le graphic $ay stop $oving )or a couple seconds and then 'egin to $ove again. 5o+ever, the syste$ is still per)or$ing the 'ac?upGrestore )unction and it +ill 'e co$pleted properly. 4hen using so$e 4indo+s 9E $ode$ dial%up connections, you $ay get a :ernel30 page )ault +ith auto$atic dial%up. Close the error +indo+. -o avoid this pro'le$, you should $anually initiate the dial%up to connect to the I"* AInternet "ervice *roviderB. *reventing doc?ing support )or progra$s )ro$ the 0ocked ta' in 7oiceCenter *roperties allo+s you to change the doc?ing 'ehavior o) the 7oiceCenter, 'ut does not disa'le speech recognition support )or the progra$. "o$eti$es +hen you install ,ly$pus 7ia7oice -ranscription over 7ia7oice Millenniu$, the ,ly$pus 7ia7oice -ranscription installation progra$ $ight cause a page )ault. "i$ply close the page )ault dialog 'oC and proceed +ith ,ly$pus 7ia7oice -ranscription installation. -he installation +ill co$plete success)ully. 4hen you install /otus "$art"uite Release 9.E over 7ia7oice Millenniu$, you +ill see a page )ault +hen you try to start 7oiceCenter. -o resolve this pro'le$, you $ust run the Repair progra$ that is included on the 7ia7oice Millenniu$ C&. Close all applications on your co$puter. #o to the %upport directory on the 7ia7oice Millenniu$ C&, and dou'le%clic? on the =R.*AIR..N.= progra$ to initiate the repair process. A)ter restarting your syste$, you can start 7oiceCenter. 4hen installing 4orld Boo? 99 +ith 7ia7oice over 7ia7oice Millenniu$, you +ill see the /dd IBM ViaVoice 5old Runtime $essage. 1ou $ust select 46it )ro$ this $essage and installation +ill co$plete success)ully. 4hen entering teCt into a cell, either dictated or typed, Microso)t .Ccel does not allo+ progra$s to access the teCt 'eing entered. &ue to this pro'le$, the Begin Reading )unction +ill not read your teCt until you have s+itched )ocus to a di))erent cell and then 'ac? to the cell you +ant read 'ac? to you.

4hen using "pea?*ad or Microso)t 4ord to dictate eCtre$ely large )iles, you $ay )ind that the =8ind e+ 4ords= )eature )ro$ the ViaVoice, ools $enu or the =Auto 8ind e+ 4ords= )eature +hen you close a saved docu$ent +ith ne+ +ords does not +or?. 1ou should turn o)) the =Auto )ind ne+ +ords= )eature. 8ro$ ViaVoice Options. on the 0ictation ta', clear the /uto 7ind new words chec? 'oC. -hen you can select groups o) teCt and select the 'ind New Words $enu ite$ )ro$ the ViaVoice, ools $enu to )ind ne+ +ords. 4hen using the 7ia7oice dictation support )or Microso)t 4ord 0000, you $ust set the security level to lo+. Clic? the ools $enu in 4ord, point to Macro, and then clic? %ecurit*. ,n the %ecurit* 8e&el ta', clic? 8ow and then clic? 'oC. -hen you can select the 'ind New Words $enu ite$ )ro$ the ViaVoice, ools $enu to )ind ne+ +ords. 4hen using Microso)t 4ord 97 or 0000, the /uto 7ind new words )eature and 'ind New Words $enu ite$ can only 'e used on the )irst docu$ent you open. I) you open $ultiple docu$ents, these )eatures are not availa'le. 1ou should dictate into one docu$ent and $a?e any necessary corrections, save and close it, and then open another docu$ent )or dictation. &ue to a li$itation +ith Microso)t 4ord 0000, so$e co$puters eCperience a pro'le$ +hen you open a previously dictated 4ord docu$ent and you cannot dictate or correct. 1ou should close the 4ord progra$ and open the docu$ent 'y dou'le%clic?ing on the )ile icon. "ince this pro'le$ only occurs on so$e $achines, you could also open the docu$ent in 4ord on di))erent $achine. 4hen you have Microso)t 4ord open Ausing 7ia7oice dictation supportB and also have "pea?*ad open, you $ay get a $essage 'oC stating, ="pea?*ad> *lease +ait...=, +hich appears +hen you clic? on "pea?*ad to dictate. -his $essage should go a+ay auto$atically, 'ut $ay not in so$e cases. -o re$ove this $essage and dictate into "pea?*ad, turn the $icrophone o)) and then 'ac? on again. 4hen you create )or$s in Microso)t 4ord and then try to dictate into the )or$ )ields, 7ia7oice does not support dictation. -his is 'ecause you are no longer dictating into a docu$ent, instead this )or$ has 'eco$e a dialog +ith teCt )ields. In order to dictate into the )ields, you $ust say =&ictate &irectly= to use the &irect &ictation )eature, +hich supports dictation into teCt )ields. I) you dictate into a +ord processor that has a tool'ar +ith a )ont si;e 'oC such as /otus 4ord *ro or Microso)t 4ord, nu$'ers you dictate $ay 'e recogni;ed occasionally as a co$$and and result in an un+anted change in the )ont si;e. -his happens +hen you pause 'e)ore and a)ter you dictate a nu$'er and 7ia7oice interprets it as a co$$and, rather than dictated teCt. I) you are having this pro'le$, you should use the attention +ord =Co$puter= 'e)ore any co$$and. -his re<uires that the attention +ord 'e spo?en 'e)ore all co$$ands,

other than 0ictation Inline co$$ands i) you use these co$$ands +hile dictating. -he re<uired attention +ord can 'e selected in ViaVoice Options, on the (ommand %ets ta'. @ 1ou $ust set advanced options )or certain +ord processing progra$s such as /otus 4ord *ro or Microso)t 4ord, to avoid unintentionally deleting surrounding +ords during dictation and error correction +hen using &irect &ictation. 8or $ore in)or$ation a'out setting advanced options )or your +ord processor, go to the In7ormation (entral help )ile, open the 0irect 0ictation 'oo? and select the %ettin1 /d&ance Options topic. I) you are using /otus 4ord *ro 9.E, )ollo+ the instructions )or 4ord *ro Release 9. I) you are using Corel 4ord*er)ect 9, )ollo+ the instructions )or 4ord*er)ect D. 1ou should li$it the si;e o) your dictated docu$ents in +ord processing progra$s such as /otus 4ord *ro or Microso)t 4ord. 7ia7oice is saving your speech data )or correction and play'ac?, so +hen you dictate very large docu$ents, this $ay drain syste$ resources and result in slo+ per)or$ance or page )aults in progra$s that do not handle lo+ syste$ resource pro'le$s correctly. -ry to dictate docu$ents +ith less than 10,000 +ords %% a'out 0E average type+ritten pages or 'rea? up large docu$ents into separate )iles and edit each )ile separately. I) you are using &irect &ictation to dictate into the Microso)t ,))ice 0000 progra$s, you should $ove the clip'oard tool'ar to the area +here the other progra$ tool'ars are located. &ue to an ,))ice Clip'oard li$itation, only 10 ite$s can 'e copied to it at a ti$e. I) $ore are copied, then you see a $essage stating the clip'oard is )ull. By $oving this tool'ar, you can avoid the clip'oard +indo+ )ro$ 'eing displayed each ti$e you copy ite$s to it. 4hen the $essage appears, ans+er =1es= and continue. I) you dictated Microso)t 4ord docu$ents +ith a previous version o) 7ia7oice, +hen you open the 4ord docu$ent using the 7ia7oice Millenniu$ version o) dictation support )or 4ord, you $ay see a Microso)t 7isual Basic co$pile error $essage. -here are so$e older versions o) )iles that $ay 'e on your syste$ and they should 'e deleted prior to opening these docu$ents in 4ord. -o )ind and delete these )iles, do the )ollo+ing>

Clic? %tart, 'ind, then point to 'iles or 'olders. In the Named )ield, type 0ict(tl8i)"twd. 0ict(tl8i)"e6d and in the 8ook in )ield select each drive on your syste$. Clic? 'ind Now to search )or these )iles. 4hen the search is co$plete, i) you see these )iles in the list, right%clic? on each )ile and select 0elete. I) the )iles +ere not )ound, you pro'a'ly have $ultiple drives. "earch all drives 'y changing the drive letter in the 8ook in )ield and clic? 'ind Now, until you have )ound the )iles and then delete the$.

@ I) you have Internet .Cplorer 9.01 +ith "ervice *ac? 0 or higher installed and are using the Active &es?top 4e' style vie+, voice navigation co$$ands are li$ited due to a pro'le$ +ith Microso)t Active Accessi'ility . 4e suggest you disa'le the 4e' style vie+ and use the Classic style vie+ )or your des?top. @ I) you are having navigation pro'le$s and you have installed Internet .Cplorer 9.01 +ith "ervice *ac? 0, you should change this 'ro+ser +indo+ option to i$prove navigation. 8ro$ the ools $enu o) Internet .Cplorer, select Internet Options $enu ite$. ,n the /d&anced ta', in the Browsin1 section, select the 8aunc$ )rowser window in a separate process chec? 'oC. -hen, close Internet .Cplorer and restart to 'egin navigating.

4hen using Microso)t ,))ice 97, you $ay eCperience very slo+ per)or$ance +hen using 7ia7oice Millenniu$, due to a li$itation +ith Microso)t Active Accessi'ility. -o i$prove per)or$ance, you $ust disa'le as $any tool'ars )ro$ the progra$ as possi'le. I) you are using Microso)t ,utloo? 9D or 0000, disa'le the 'ormattin1 and %tandard tool'ars. I) you are using the Microso)t .Cchange, disa'le the 0rawin1 tool'ar.
