Ana Gladis Martnez Ramrez English major Management of technological resources for TEFL TPI Report 2014.

The Teaching Perspectives Inventory (TPI) is a list which has 45 items that evaluates our teaching manner. It means how a person, as an educator, teaches or instructs students. The TPI can help us to comprehend our own persuasions of these manners and how we denote them through our own beliefs, intentions and actions. The TPI also can help us to have a better idea on the style we have to deliver content and having this information we can make well-founded decisions relating education and teaching and we can make better judgments and opinions of our own teaching perspectives and others.

This is my TPI score:

My dominant perspective with 37 points is the Apprenticeship which means practical instruction. As an educator, my thoughts are that an effective instruction should

have the incorporation of new behavioral norms and ways of learning, it means learn by doing. As a teacher, and I would like to be an excellent one, I think we should be practicing the subject matter every time to get more experience and knowledge because as it is said: Practice makes perfect. Also, as teachers we should be able to identify the strength areas of students to take advantage of them as well as the weakness areas to improve them; and work with all the abilities of students to enrich the teaching-learning process. We should not underestimate our students abilities, in fact we should increase them and change our role from saying to students what to do to guide and direct them on how to do the things.

My second dominant perspective with 36 points is Transmission. This is somehow related with my first dominant perspective, because it deals with the mastery of the subject matter or content. A good teacher should be well-prepared on every class and present the content to students as accurately as possible. To make all this possible, teachers should set clear objectives with every content, organized methodology, adequate pacing and timing; also, teachers should provide feedback and review to students, set clear expectations, answer students questions efficiently, and directing students in the learning process. Teachers should be capable to transmit content to students in a memorable way.

And my last dominant perspective with 35 points is the Nurturing which means cultivate and further instruction. As teachers, we should motivate students to learn and grow every day and remember them that failures are part of this process but they are not an end. We have to encourage students to succeed in the learning process and all their improvements and triumphs are a result of their efforts. Educators have a great responsibility with students esteem, because a word can change in a positive or negative way the perspective and confidence of a student. Students should not be underestimated, in fact we must challenge them to give the best and do the best possible and accompany them in this process, supporting and caring them, giving them the necessary guidance to achieve their goals.

Taking this test, now I can name my teaching style and I have a better idea of it. I can do better judgments and opinions of my own manner and others; but no matter the teaching style we should give the best of us. Being a teacher is more than a profession, this is a vocation and we should try to be and to do the best of the best.
