By: Kriz Cruzado | Posted: 06th August 2010 Mental alertness is quick-wittedness, keenness, and sharpness o the !ind that is e"ident in a person#s a$ilit% to concentrate, pa% attention, think rationall%, capture and co!prehend ideas& Mentall% alert people are also intelligent indi"iduals& 'n the course o ti!e, the !ental a$ilit% and alertness o a person di!inishes as an e ect o en"iron!ental changes and in luence& (i!e, li est%le and practice are contri$utor% actors to decreased !ental alertness& (o $e !ore !entall% alert, indi"iduals are ad"ised to !aintain a reading ha$it to keep the $rain acti"e and working& )eading is a good !ental e*ercise that sti!ulates creati"it% and co!prehension skills& +urther!ore, it is the easiest to !aintain a!ong other ho$$ies so there is no reason or people not to e*ercise their $rains& (here are !an% di erent wa%s to keeping and i!pro"ing !ental alertness aside ro! reading& ,h%sical and !editati"e e*ercises, like %oga and tai chi, are a good wa% to rela* the !ind and acilitate the release o right che!icals into the $rain to keep it alert& -oga is a known !ental rela*ation and re"italization e*ercise that is done through concentration and e!pt%ing the !ind& .earning new things dail% is another good !ental acti"it%& /toring new in or!ation on a regular $asis co!pels the $rain to sustain a higher le"el o alertness to cope with the learning acti"it%& 0ngaging into con"ersations, watching in or!ati"e (1 progra!s and !aintaining good or acti"e con"ersations with people are also good $rain e*ercises& Again, reading can $e a good "ehicle to learning new things& 2etting enough sleep is i!portant to sta%ing and $eco!ing !ore !entall% alert& ,eople who sleep i"e hours or less e"er%da% tend to $eco!e a$sent-!inded and orget ul& /leeping is the $est wa% or the $rain to rela* and recuperate adequatel% ro! a da%long work& /o!e e*perts $elie"e that a health% and $alanced diet can i!pro"e !ental alertness& 3owe"er, this still needs urther research "eri ication& /o!e ood ingredients and properties like sugar and ca eine can keep the $rain alert& 4ut or people with sleeping pro$le!s, taking ca eine is not ad"isa$le& Alcohol, drugs, sol"ents and other che!icals taken can ha"e da!aging e ects to the $rain that do not onl% decrease its capacit% to $e alert $ut also deteriorate its capacit% to do nor!al unctioning& (here are !ental energ% $oosters or enhancers a"aila$le in drug stores5 although, using the! is nonetheless ad"isa$le as it inhi$its the $rain ro! working naturall%& 3owe"er, i this is an option or a certain period o ti!e, like or a ti!e $eing when a licensure e*a! will $e taken, seeing a doctor or prescriptions will $e a sa er option& +inall%, to $e !ore !entall% alert, it is also necessar% or e"er% indi"idual to ha"e a positi"e outlook and attitude in li e& (oo !uch stress and an*iet% can a ect a person#s a$ilit% to !ake sound decisions and actions to a situation& (oo !uch worr% does not help in e*ercising the !ind5 instead, it stresses it and i!pedes creati"it% to low in& ,eople#s choices and $elie s can ha"e an i!pact to how one $eco!e !ore !entall% alert& /o ha"ing a ull understanding and knowledge
