Employee Expectations
We want your experience working in the CBC ADC to be positive and prepare you for your future career. The 5 expectations below should guide your work here and help you in future jobs. These are the things that are critical to the success of many organizations, including our office. Please keep them in mind and let us know if you have questions about them or how we can help you be successful in any way. 1. Follow Directions and Policies a. Read this manual and I-Learn carefully, and use these as references regularly. b. There is a purpose behind all of our policies. They maintain order in the office and help us do our jobs well. If you dont understand why we have a certain policy, you are welcome to ask. c. Read all emails and announcements in I-Learn from supervisors. d. Respond to requests via email as soon as possible within 24 hours is preferred. 2. Pay Attention to Details a. Missing an important detail can have significant consequences perhaps even delaying graduation for a student. Be thorough in all your work and rely on the training youve had. If you see something you arent familiar with, dont ignore it just ask. b. Take your time and think about what you are doing, even if its a mundane task. c. Take detailed messages and get as much information as possible from visitors. 3. Be Professional a.Use professional language and words that work when youre working, not slang or casual language. b. Follow the dress code. c. You need to be working while youre on the clock. Make sure your output matches the hours you are paid for. d. Own up to your mistakes. We all make them, but its best to be honest and accept them, fix them, and learn from them. 4. Take Ownership of your Work a. Write down tasks or projects you are assigned. Once they are assigned, it is your responsibility to complete them. b. Be resourceful. Dont ask your supervisor or other employees to do things you can do yourself. Try to help yourself before interrupting someone elses work to ask questions, but do ask questions when necessary. c. If theres a problem, try to fix it. Dont assume someone else will or that it isnt your problem. Keep your supervisor updated on problem situations, but always come with a potential solution. d. Take your time to create work that you can be proud of. Be innovative, ambitious and creative you should never be without something to do, and its your responsibility to stay busy. 5. Be Helpful a. I dont know is not an appropriate answer for your supervisor or a visitor to the office. You dont need to know everything, but take ownership to find out. I dont know, but Ill find out is an appropriate answer. b. Have a positive attitude. Be patient and helpful with the students we serve. c. Think of how you can make your boss job easier, as well as ways that you may be making it more difficult. 3 d. Gather as much information as possible before you go to your supervisor with a question or problem.
Employee Expectations
Professional Behavior
Student employees of the CBC ADC are expected to adhere to the following guidelines: Employees should always display a friendly attitude toward students and anyone else visiting the office. We offer a wide range of services and a professional, helpful, friendly demeanor is a must! Superior customer service is always our goal. Be helpful to visitors to the center as well as other employees. Be resourceful and find out answers to questions. We want to make sure everyone receives accurate and helpful information. When addressing visitors, always greet them in a friendly manner with a smile. Ask if they need help and dont assume they know what we do. The center is new to many students and they may not even know what to ask, so it is important that you are friendly, helpful, and give thema thorough explanation of our services. Personal phone calls from cell phones are not allowed during work hours. Texting, playing games, or surfing the Internet are also inappropriate and not allowed during work. Personal use of CBC ADC equipment and supplies is not allowed. This includes computers, phones, printers and all office supplies. No homework is to take place while working unless given specific permission by a supervisor. Employees are expected to keep their assigned work hours. If you need to leave early or know that you will not be able to make it to work, please contact Sheila, Natalie, or Tyler to let them know in advance. You are responsible for finding someone to cover your shift. You are working with sensitive personal student information. Remember FERPA policies and follow them under all circumstances. Never demean, insult, or make fun of other students. Also, be careful not to say or do anything that may be offensive. ALL assigned projects and tasks should be taken seriously and worked on diligently. Quality work is preferred over work that is done quickly. Take your time and create finished products that are free form errors and that you can be proud of. Proofread everything carefully and make sure that you complete the project as it was assigned.

Online Degrees
Online FAQs Q. Where can I go for more information? A. www.byui.edu/online Students can also be directed to the Online Support Center at (208) 496-1800 or toll free at 866-672-2984 Q. Are online classes like on-campus classes? A. Online classes are taught on the same calendar year as on campus classes and are intended to resemble on campus classes as much as possible. Students should expect group work and other traditional classroom elements. Students should plan to dedicate the time they would have spent in a classroom PLUS additional homework time. Q. Are online classes easier? A. Students should know that online classes are as challenging as on-campus classes. Each hour a campus student would spend in the classroom, an online student will spend in front of the computer studying. This is in addition to homework time. Q. Do online students receive the same benefits as campus students? A. When a students status switches to online the student will become ineligible for school financial aid, student housing, health insurance through the school and other campus benefits. Online students DO still have access to tutoring and other campus support systems. Students can also attend class all three semesters and summer session. Online students are not subject to credit limits. Q. What is the benefit to switching to an online program? A. Online programs allow students to complete class work when it is convenient for them. In addition, online students do not need to worry about high credit holds. Online students are not limited to the number of majors/degrees that they seek. (Plus online students have an awesome advisor). Online students can also attend classes all three semesters during hte year and summer session. Q. How will I know which classes to take? A. When a student applies to the online program, the next step is to take a class called GS 111. During this class students will work with an advisor to create a graduation plan. This is extremely important as not all campus classes are taught online. Q. Are online degrees as good as campus degrees? A. Your diploma will not have any indication that you studied online. A degree from BYU- Idaho is equally valuable regardless of the format you complete it in. Q. Who qualifies for the Online Degrees Program? A. A student MUST complete 15 credits with a church university BEFORE applying to the online degree program. Institute does not count. Q. Where do I apply for an online degree? A. You can do so at www.besmart.com Online Advisors Main Office cbconline@byui.edu (208) 496-9900 Kendra Justesen justesenk@byui.edu (208) 496-9901 Debbie Willis willisd@byui.edu (208) 496-9903 Natalie Gay gayn@byui.edu (208) 496-9902 Debra Jones jonesde@byui.edu Lucy Ward

Foundations
For most college students, general education courses are considered a chore--something to soldier through and check off their list before they can move on to the more interesting classes associated with their majors. This is not the case at BYU-Idaho, where general education courses have been completely redesigned. Known as Foundations, these innovative classes raise the quality of every students experience by providing a stronger basis for learning to build upon. Foundations courses are divided into five areas: Eternal Truths Academic Fundamentals Science Cultural Awareness Connections These interdisciplinary courses work hand-in-hand with the Learning Model and together provide a more focused education. Advisors can use the Foundation Articulation Chart to help see what general education courses are equivalent to foundation courses. Articulation Chart This shows what general education courses count towards foundation courses. The chart can be found in I-learn under Topic Index > F > Foundations > Foundations Articulation Chart.
http://www.byui.edu/about/defining-aspects/foundations
12
Religion
Things to Remember: Religion requirements may be reduced depending on how many transfer credits a student has. Refer to the articulation chart (link is below). AP credits do not count toward reducing religion requirements. The waivers listed on a students degree audit are not always right. It is important to double check by comparing there transfer courses to the articulation chart.

Registration
Day Courses If a class is full, students will have the option to put themselves on an electronic waiting list. Once a seat becomes available, the first student on the waitlist will be notified that a seat is being held for them to add. If a student does not add the course within 24 hours, the student is removed from the waitlist, and a notification is sent to the next student on the waitlist. Students are limited to how many credits they can wait list: DAY (on-track or off-track), ONLN, or CTED 12 credits, Part-time or non-matriculating 9 credits See http://www.byui.edu/student-records/department/waitlist/student-faq for more information on wait lists. Students needing permission to add an on-campus course should contact the instructor for permission to add the class. Online Courses Day students who are unable to register for a specific online course should request permission in the ADC center that houses the course. If the student has met the prerequisites, the peer advisor can send authorization to onlinelearning@byui.edu. When we receive an email from online learning seeking authorization for a student, check to see if they have met the prerequisites for the course. If yes, you can authorize them to take the course. If no, do not grant permission. The only exception to the prerequisites would be a non-business major completing IBC or upper division business courses for clusters, minors or electives, but who have not followed the business sequencing. In these situations, please refer to the Business prerequisite chart located on the laminated sheets at each work station. Please note online instructors do not have authority to give permission for students to waive prerequisites. If an online section is full, the student can as themself to the waitlist. Gateway Foundations Freshman have priority when registering for the following Gateway Foundations courses. Other students can add day sections after Freshman have had the opportunity. Freshmen are initially limited to register for two of these DAY sections: FDAMF 101 FDCA 101 FDENG 101 FDMAT 108 FDSCI 101

Holds
In the advisor tab you will see what holds students have. On the far left of the box it will tell you who placed the hold. If students need help getting those removed they can contact the office that placed the hold and get specific instructions about how to have it removed. AASW A student on Academic Warning or Academic Probation is automatically enrolled in the online version of AASW accessible through I-Learn at the beginning of each semester To lift the AASW hold, the student must complete the Achieving Academic Success Workshop in I-Learn. High Credit Holds Purpose: In an effort to wisely manage the resources of the University, BYUIdaho encourages students to focus on and complete their graduation requirements in an efficient and timely manner. Students must make a grad plan and submit it for approval in order to have a high credit hold removed When a student has submitted a grad plan, peer advisors review it and inform the student of all necessary corrections via email If there are no corrections or the corrections have been made, the peer advisors will approve the grad plan and replace the high credit hold for the semester that the student plans to graduate The student will be notified of the approval with an automatic approval from the grad planner along with the following email message: Dear Student, We have approved your grad plan to complete your degree SEMESTER with 1XX CREDITS. A High Credit Restriction has also been placed that will prevent you from registering for classes beyond SEMESTER. You are required to follow this approved plan. If changes are necessary due to changes in degree requirements or course availability, please make them and resubmit your plan for approval. If you do not complete your degree in the semester and credits mentioned above, you may not be able to attend additional semesters at BYU-Idaho. (Exceptions will be made for approved deferments, including missions.)

Fast Grad
Fast Grad Process The Fast Grad program offers students the opportunity to graduate more quickly by attending BYU-Idaho year-round. Fast Grad applicants should be able to demonstrate that they are making the most of their time at BYU-Idaho in order to graduate quickly. Students who meet the following criteria are encouraged to contact the Admissions Office to discuss their eligibility for Fast Grad: The student must have a current approved Grad Plan on file with the Academic Discovery Center The student must be a full-time BYU-Idaho student admitted to one of the three tracks The student should have earned at least 50 credits prior to applying for Fast Grad The student should have attended both of their preceding on-track semesters at BYU-Idaho The student should have and maintain a minimum 2.8 college GPA A Fast Grad override (permission to attend your off-track semester) is only given for one semester at a time. Students must receive approval for each off-track semester they desire to attend before they can register. Approval for one Fast Grad override does not guarantee approval for additional future overrides. How to Apply To apply for Fast Grad, please visit the Admissions Office in Kimball 120, call (208) 496-1300, or emailadmissions@byui.edu. Remember that a student must have an approved Grad Plan before you can receive a Fast Grad override. The Admissions Offices software has been programmed to read the approved grad plan field. ADC advisors are only responsible to approve students grad plans, submitted online through the Grad Planner tool. Other than that, we should refer any Fast Grad questions to the Admissions Office.

Changing a Major
Guidelines for students 60 credits or less
Students must complete a grad plan for the new major and have it approved. Once the grad plan has been approved the major can be changed.
Student must complete a grad plan using the grad planner tool Student will save (not submit) the grad plan Student will email our center when the grad plan is complete (have them include their I-number in the email) Review grad plan using the laminated checklist graduation plan If plan is accurate, change the students major Approve the grad plan and place a HCR hold Use the email template to send student email regarding HCR hold Advisortrac email and change of major
Students must complete a major change petition if they have completed more than 60 credits and wish to change their major.
Student needs to submit the following: Petition form with student statement Student statement: Explanation of why the student wants to change majors 2 grad plans 2 grad plans: a grad plan for the current major and the requested major 2 degree audits 2 degree audits: a degree audit for the current major and the requested major Peer Advisor counts the remaining credits for the current major and the remaining credits for the requested major and writes it on the front of the degree audit. Peer Advisor reviews the grad plans for completeness and accuracy. If the current and/or requested major requires a minor or clusters, they must be included on the degree audits, grad plans, and credit totals. Make sure you review catalog year options for the requested major with students. A different catalog year could require fewer credits and thus their petition is more likely to be approved. (Students are eligible for any catalog year during which they attended BYU-Idaho until the catalog expires.) Do not make any promises or guarantees either way to a student who wants to change his/her major. There are many factors and petitions are reviewed on a case by case basis. When reviewing, make any possible recommendations to reduce credits, as long as university requirements will still be met. Peer notates the progress in Advisortrac, compiles all documents and submits to full time advisor by placing in the IN box. Full-time Advisor reviews, makes a decision, notifies student if petition is denied. Approved petition placed in OUT box. Secretary notifies the student the request has been approved, scans the document and saves it to Feith. Visit this link to view the major petition form: http://www.byui.edu/Documents/advising/Over60doc.pdf

Case Study #1
High Credit Hold Email from Student: Hello, I got an email that said I have a high credit limit so I cant register for classes. It said to log in to my.byui to see what I needed to do to get that hold lifted, but when I logged in to my.byui it said I needed to check my email to see what to do. So which is it? How do I get this hold off? Thanks, Rick Student
Appropriate Response to Student: Rick, High credit holds are lifted by getting a grad plan approved. You can create a plan by going to this link: https://web.byui.edu/gradplan/. Once your plan has been approved, the high credit hold will be lifted. Our advisors are available to help answer your questions regarding your grad plan. Please let me know if you have any questions. Kind regards, Peer Advisor CBC Academic Discovery Center Smith 227 208-496-9840

Case Study #2
Internship Waive Email from Student: Dear ADC, My name is Rick Student. I am in the Business Management program. I am writing to inquire about a few things. First, I have been in the workforce for 3 1/2 years. I feel that essentially an internship is designed to give me real world experience and I already have that. I am hoping that I can have my internship waived somehow or be given some assignments in order for it to be waived. I would like to hear your thoughts or suggestions and if there is any way at all to make that happen. I look forward to your responses and help. Thank you, Rick Student Appropriate Response to Student: Rick, Thank you for making us aware of your situation. All business management students are required to complete an internship to fulfill degree requirements. As part of the internship experience, you will be required to complete assignments throughout the semester. This will allow for your internship experience to count for credit toward your business management degree. If your current job is related to your degree, you will most likely be able use that as your internship. For questions regarding approval of your internship, you can contact your internship coordinator Lane Muranaka at muranakal@byui.edu. Please let us know if you have any further questions. Kind regards, Peer Advisor CBC Academic Discovery Center Smith 227 208-496-9840
