March 2014

I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:14

This February marks my 9th year in Uganda working with the Uganda translation teams over a quarter of my life! Its been quite a journey and it is amazing to see how far the translation projects have come and my life has changed in the last nine years. Gods plans are not always our plans and turn out so much better! In January we were able to get POWER to the house. After almost two years without it, we are greatly enjoying lights and being able to use our washing machine and refrigerator now! We were also able to get our last three inside doors on the bathrooms and pantry, which has been so nice. In February we also had our living room window put in a definite upgrade from the piece of plywood Ella, Frankie and Grace, with a horse friend near Entebbe, Uganda that had been there before! We are so, so thankful for our house and the way God has provided for us. Ella and Frankie started 3rd and 1st Grade the beginning of February, and are attending a new school, which they LOVE. We are so blessed to be able to live in an area where we can afford good Christian private education! We also celebrated Ellas 9th birthday in Februaryshe is growing up so fast! Her newest skill in learning to cook and she is quite good at whipping up pancakes or eggs and toast in the morning. Our dog Pack is up to 11 now, which includes eight of our own dogs, two of our friends dogs, and one foster dog. The house seems to be bursting with dogs and children at times! Next month we are looking forward to the arrival of our mom and Granny, who will be visiting us for two months. We cant wait!

The Translation Teams

The Bwisi team is over halfway complete with their New Testament final checks. At the moment two of the translators are revising the Book of Revelation, while the other two are working to interlinearize many of the books into English, so that a non Bwisi speakers can work with the texts as well. They will then start going through the New Testament, book by book, choosing illustrations, checking cross references, reviewing and agreeing on Key Biblical Terms (important words such as God, righteousness, grace, etc), verifying the consistency of footnotes and section headings, and answering any flags or questions that the consultant may have brought up while reviewing each of the books. Parallel passages, most of the spelling and basic checks, and introductions to each New Testament book have already been completed. The Gungu team completed the consultant check of the Gospel of Mark and are left with consultant checking of 1,2,3 John. Upon completing those short books they will be the next translation team to begin the final checks of their New Testament! The Nyole and Gwere teams both finished the consultant checking of 1 Corinthians and are only left with the translation and consultant checking of 2 Corinthians before they too can begin the long process of final checking their entire New Testaments! The Nyole project recently held a Key Biblical Terms workshop, where key words and names and places in the New Testament were resolved and agreed upon. No small task and very important to producing an accurate translation that is acceptable to all denominations. My role in all of this is continuing to draft budgets, write funding requests for the publishing of the New Testaments, coordinating with translation consultants, typesetters, and translation teams, seeing that the translators have adequate money and equipment to conduct their work, and working as the go between, between the teams and higher organizational administration and project funders. Please be praying for these teams, and all those who support them (consultants, IT personnel, administrators, etc) as they enter into the last, very demanding, stages of their New Testament translations. The pressure is high, the work is detailed and exhausting, and we are all getting tired. Pray for the perseverance to simply press on, despite hardships in personal lives and from within the organization. In Christ, Grace, Ella, Frankie and The Pack
