Recommended Storage Procedure for Packaged Production Equipment

Storage Less Than 6 Months When storing Production Equipment Packages for a short period a few precautions need to be taken to ensure that the unit remains operable upon startup. These points are listed below. Note: When storing for longer than 6 months there is a section contained farther below that states the extra requirements abo e and be!ond man! of these procedures for "hort Term "torage. Instruments #ll openings in instrument and electrical equipment shall be plugged or capped. This includes all unused cable entries$ process line connections$ and pneumatic tubing connections. #ll instrument panels$ cabinets$ or boxes containing electronic components$ shall be shrink%wrapped. #ll instruments exposed to the elements during storage shall be shrink% wrapped. #n! enclosure that contains electrical equipment or connections shall ha e a apor action$ corrosion inhibitor suitable for enclosure si&e 'Northern (nstruments )orp. *"T+,%"#-E. or equal/.

Valves Piping -lange faces shall be coated with a suitable rust inhibitor and protected with wood or plastic flange co ers. 1ale and female threaded connections shall be coated with rust inhibitor and plugged off with steel or plastic plugs. )ast iron and malleable iron fittings shall not be used. #ll external machined surfaces shall be coated with a suitable rust pre entati e that can be completel! remo ed b! hand cleaning. -langed ends of al es shall be protected with wood or plastic flange co ers. Threaded end al es shall be plugged off with steel or plastic plugs. 0ubricate all al es in accordance with manufactures appro ed procedures.

Pump and motor shafts will be coated with a corrosion inhibitor.

Inspection and Maintenance Requirements #ll items shall be externall! inspected bi%weekl! for isible signs of damage or deterioration and repaired as necessar!. #lthough this is not an absolute requirement$ it is best to store unit in an area that is not directl! exposed to the weather. Note that equipment should not be co ered or wrapped in plastic unless a desiccant is included or moisture will become trapped inside worsening conditions instead of impro ing them. The storage precautions listed below are in addition to the short%term storage recommendations listed abo e. # drawing should be prepared to show the installation of the temporar! items below and marked so that the! will be remo ed before shipping3"tart% :p. -or Pressure ,ated Equipment % ;lind flanges w3 taps and coated with &inc should be installed at open piping flanges. (nterconnect all piping and essels as necessar! with stainless steel tubing. # nitrogen source with pressure reducing regulator and gauge should be tied into the process piping at the lowest accessible point. :se a pressure%reducing regulator with a minimum design inlet pressure of 2666 psig$ and a maximum outlet pressure of 6%6< psig$ '9ictor model ",%8<6%= or equal/. (nstall a pressure gage with a pressure range of 6%26 psig downstream of the regulator. # ent al e should be installed at the highest point. +pen the ent al e$ then open nitrogen source al e to allow the nitrogen to purge all air. +pen the nitrogen source to the s!stem for se eral minutes until cool nitrogen can be felt escaping from the outlet ent. )lose the ent al e and bring the pressure up to

about < psig. The nitrogen pressure should be maintained at < psig at all times throughout the storage period.

Storage More Than 6 Months cont!d" -or #tmospheric ,ated Equipment 'heaters$ reboilers$ sump tanks$ etc./ > )o er all openings with liquid%tight co ering$ and make pro ision to interconnect all tanks and piping. -ill the tank and piping with a <63<6 water gl!col solution with corrosion inhibitors. # small pump$ such as a Wilden T%4$ should be connected with the suction off the drain and the discharge plumbed back into a high point on the s!stem being protected. This can be tied into the gauge glass connection or an! other point that is high and con enient tank or piping. The gl!col should be circulated for a minimum of six hours each month to maintain a good mixture and pre ent the gl!col and water from separating. Please note some brands of prop!lene gl!col and water mixture will retain a better in solution mixture that will not require circulation for periods longer than 6%74 months.
