SWEET HOME CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS SCORE BUFFALO SABRES, AT&T IT CAN WAIT VISIT
Buffalo Sabres Goaltender Jhonas Enroth and AT&T host School Assembly Monday March 31, 1 p.m. 2 p.m.
BUFFALO, N.Y., MAR., 31, 2014 AT&T* today will hold an It Can Wait anti-texting and driving assembly at Sweet Home Central High School in Amherst with Buffalo Sabres goaltender Jhonas Enroth from 1 p.m. 2p.m. AT&Ts It Can Wait campaign, and the Buffalo Sabres recently came together to challenge 30 area high schools to encourage students, parents and teachers alike to take the pledge not to text and drive. As the winning school with the most pledges collected, Sweet Home Central students will meet Enroth who will participate in the schools assembly focused on the dangers of texting and driving. Were proud to be part of AT&Ts It Can Wait program to help raise awareness about the dangers of texting and driving, said Jhonas Enroth, Sabres goaltender. Students from Sweet Home Central and all the competing high schools took this issue seriously and did everything possible to spread the message that no text is worth dying for. Our students did an exceptional job with their peers, teachers and parents to drive home the message about the dangers of texting and driving during this campaign with the Sabres and AT&T, said Joleen Reinholz, Principal Sweet Home Central High School. In addition to todays assembly, the Sweet Home Central Panthers hockey team had the opportunity to attend a practice session with Sabres Center Cody Hodgson. AT&T first launched the It Can Wait program in 2009 to educate the public about the dangers of texting while driving and encourage consumers to take the pledge to never text and drive at www.ItCanWait.com. The campaign has inspired more than 4 million pledges. Were challenging all drivers, especially teens; to take the pledge to never text and drive and make it a lifelong commitment, said Marissa Shorenstein, New York President, AT&T. Studies show those who send te xt messages while driving are much more likely to be in a crash.

Texting while driving causes more than 200,000 car crashes on American roadways each year, according to the 1 National Safety Council . Research shows that speaking up against texting while driving works. A 2 ConnectSafely.org survey sponsored by AT&T found that: Ninety-seven percent of teens surveyed say texting while driving is dangerous but 75 percent say it is common among their friends. Adults tell kids not to text while driving, yet according to 77 percent of teens; adults do it all the time.
