AN introduction to the company.

TATRA corp. is a vehicle manufacturer based in Kopivnice province of Czech Republic. The company was founded in 1850 as Schustala & Company later renamed Nesselsdorfer Wagenbau-Fabriksgesellschaft, a wagon and carriage manufacturer, and in 1897 produced the first motor car in central Europe, the Prsident. In 1918, it changed its name to Kopivnick vozovka corp. and, in 1919, started to use the Tatra badge named after the nearby Tatra mountains in Slovakia. Tatra is the third oldest car maker in the world after Daimler-Benz and Peugeot. Tatra initially produced cars as well as trucks and utility vehicles, but p roduction of Tatra cars ceased in 1999, continuing only with TATRA brand trucks and utility vehicles. TATRA. has two subsidiaries - Taforge and Tafonco. Its core production programme includes heavy-duty off-road trucks and vehicles for combined off-road and on-road transport, which have been continuously improved to suit the needs and wants of increasing customer requirements. The company now holds specialization in producing trucks and utility vehicles for the following range of diverse fields and environments and terrains:

Working and functioning of the company
TATRA has existed for more than 160 years. For the whole of this period their products have been characterized by high quality and reliability. To continue this tradition they have introduced various methods, means and Quality Management System. Its basic goal is to fulfil the stipulated principles of the quality policy and to keep the reputation of the company along the history alive. This ensures that all products and process procedures comply with the requirements of technical and legal standards that the company obliges to and the customers expect from the the company.

TATRA wants to be a reliable business partner. The certification demonstrating the state-of-the-art condition and efficiency of their QMS can form the foundation for the establishment of mutual confidence and set an example to many others.

They hold a TV CERT certificate (pursuant to EN ISO 9001:2008) for the management system in the field of Development, Production, Sale and Servicing of Trucks, Units and Parts and a Declaration of Conformity of the quality system with the requirements pursuant to SN EN ISO 9001:2009 and OS 051622 (AQAP 2110 of the Office for Defence Standardisation, Codification and Government Quality Assurance).

The following documents stand testimony to TATRAs efforts towards high level of performance, quality control, management principles and a glorious reputation globally.

TATRA, a.s. is an important producer of heavy duty trucks, whose history goes back more than a hundred and fi fty years, and whose make has been connected in the long term with tradition, reliability and quality. The company regard as their basic obli-gation to supply the market with safe and reliable products, which meet the obligatory technical and legal regulations. Quality is the basic precondition for fulfi lling the companys aims, principal values and developmental intentions. Systematic care about the environment is part of our business strategy, activities and plans. A medium-term target is to introduce and apply the system of environmental management. From a long-term point of view we promote the vision of satisfying, at the maximum possible degree, the needs and expectations of all interested parties, i.e. customers, shareholders, employees, suppliers and the company, and we aim to become the best within our trade industry in creating values for customers and shareholders. In relation to our suppliers:

PRODUCTION TECHNIQUE TATRA corp. manufactured the first truck in the year 1898 at w Kopivnice province, this truck was a flatbed. Since then TATRA carved a name for itself in truck manufacturing, especially heavy duty and extreme utility trucks. It has kept its production techniques and methods up to date to the various improvements in the world in the field of technology and other wise.

TATRA has today adopted an integrated approach toward production of trucks, covering all aspects such as product sourcing, integration, assembly, fabrication, paint job and final product delivery under one umbrella to create much more efficiency in production.

TATRAs vision rests on three pillars providing world class quality, delivering on time and maximizing the economic advantage of large scale. Its integrated manufacturing facility at Kopivnice province of Czech Republic is world class.

TATRAs commitment to quality permits the use of only the latest and world -class facilities. The plant is spread over a sprawling 515-acre space that forms the backbone of the companys truck manufacturing globally. With state-of-the-art plants, assembly line, R&D and paint shop coupled with a modern warehouse, TATRA has ensured that nothing but the best trucks roll out from these premises.

All materials are sourced from world class vendors especially suiting the companies needs. These materials are then send to undergo rigorous quality and standards checking and then distributed to various blocks where the materials needs to be processed.

Assembly After pre-assembly, a semi-automated assembly line ensures that chassis, engine, wheels, cabs and other components are integrated to produce trucks fit for any road, off road and any load. TATRA sources the engines for its trucks from some of the worlds best automotive manufacturers such as Deutz, CAT and Cummins etc and are fully Euro-III compliant. The process is governed by operating procedures that follow best international practices.

Cab shop The cab weld shop assembles cabs from pre-fabricated components through a highly automated process. The air-conditioned sleeper cabin was offered to heavy utility military and mining trucks by TATRA before anyone else. Paint shop Post-production, trucks move to a fully automated paint shop. The process employs an advanced technique involving the movement of highly charged particles through a colloidal suspension under an electric field. This is done to ensure a high-quality, enduring glossy finish. The shop has two state-of-the-art coating lines for carriages and cabs. It can apply 11 colors simultaneously, with varied pattern. For military, fire and mining requirements, TATRA has a special scheme and terrain specific coloring unit providing a variety of options and pattern to the customer as per the requirements.

Frame shop As a manufacturer of heavy-duty trucks, TATRA places great importance to the production of robust chassis systems. The Frame Shop is capable of producing in-frame truck chassis with advanced vehicle balance, handling, ride characteristics, and maneuverability in any terrain. Entire chassis is based on modular format and has a tubular design. Test centre Post-manufacture, TATRA trucks are subjected to a rigorous testing regime. Every single truck is verified, validated and certified for performance, durability and reliability before it is ready for the road. Test criteria include: Driving: Maximum speed, acceleration through gears, braking deceleration & stopping distance Cabin: Steering effort, pass by and in-cab noise Terrain: Cooling, grade ability, water-wading, stability etc Fuel Consumption: On-road consumption tests conducted as per pre-determined cycles to predict overall consumption under a variety of terrain & traffic conditions Structural durability of vehicles is checked to the fullest to satisfy and excel the consumer demands. The trucks for INDIAN ARMY are specially tested at the VRDE facility in Ahmednagar.

Working conditions and ergonomics. TATRA provides with the best possible working conditions to all its employees as per the international standards. Its assembly facilities and warehouses provide with best of the class safety and security to the employees working in them. Around 30% of employees work under the production and assembly lines of the total workforce of the company and 22% work in warehouses and stock rooms. Rest 47% of the employees fall under other aspects such as marketing and other office related duties of the company. Proper resting and working conditions are provided to the employees in each of these aspects of the company. The strict regulation of the company allows no employees without safety gears into the production facilities and warehouses. Proper drinking facilities are provided ensuring safety of the employees. Facilities for employees for their recreational purposes are also allowed. No employee of the company working directly or in contract is allowed to work for more than 6 hours in stretch in the assembly line. Male and female employees are given separate areas for resting and recreational purpose. Warehouses, production facilities and office areas are maintained and cleaned on a daily basis. Strict medical check ups are done on the employees working in the paint and dye departments, on a weekly basis. The organization promotes and gives every employee a fare chance to voice his or her concerns and difficulties.

SWOT ANALYSIS
Strengths 1) TATRA has boosted quality more than any other truck maker in the past five years, cutting defects by 60%. 2) TATRA has the most agile and best suited trucks for any terrain and its independent axel system and independent suspension is world class and has no rivals. 3) There are very few companies in the world offering such diverse platforms of trucks specialized for independent needs. Weaknesses 1) TATRA lacks the revenue and marketing like its bigger rivals have i.e KOMATSU, KAMAZ, A.M.W etc. 2) It manufactures only trucks which is very niche and creates very limited revenue for the company.
