Child Welfare Program: Are you a parent interested in
learning about child welfare? If so, you are invited to
attend our Child Welfare Program on Wednesday, October
28th from 6:30 – 9 pm. Our guest speaker will be Dr. Maria
Puig from the Social Work program at CSU. Light
refreshments will be served.
Halloween Party, Patio Decoration Contest, and
Coloring Contest: All children, singles, and families are
invited to attend the UV 2009 Halloween Party on
Thursday, October 29th from 6 – 8 pm. Join us for a
costume contest (with different age categories), dancing,
crafts, spooky food, and more! Also, we will be holding a
Halloween patio decoration contest and a coloring contest
this year. See the separate flyers for more details on how to
win. Winners of the competitions will be announced at this
year’s party! Also, parents please be aware that children
under 12 will only be allowed to attend the Halloween
party if they are accompanied by you. Thank you!
Halloween Trick or Treating: Help celebrate Halloween
this year by joining in our annual Trick or Treat event. See

Halloween and how we will be celebrating it here at

Flower Fair Celebration: Join us on Saturday, Nov. 14th to
celebrate the end of the gardening season and to
appreciate all those residents who contribute to the beauty
of UV by tending to their flower gardens. Look for more
information coming soon.
Thanksgiving Celebration: Come help us celebrate this
traditional American holiday on Thursday, Nov. 26th. We
will share in a Thanksgiving meal, and reflect on what we
are grateful for. Details will be coming your way soon.
Winter Holiday Party: Christmas, Yule, Eid, Kwanzaa,
Hanukkah – as the cold days descend upon us there are so
many different ways to celebrate! Learn about different
winter holidays and share in cultural traditions around the
world that are celebrated at this time of year. More
information will be provided in the coming weeks.
PRESCHOOL PLAYDATE
For this week’s preschool playdate (for kids 0-5 with parents) we will
be joined by a special guest speaker, Vicky Hays. Vicky Hays is the
Early Literacy Librarian for Poudre River Public Library District. She
will be discussing the six early literacy skills that will help children get
ready to learn to read when they start school. Parents can listen to
the speaker and kids can play in an adjoining room! Contact Carrie

Important Safety Information on Snow Clearing
As we move into the winter months, the management would like to
remind all residents to keep the sidewalks and parking lots clear of
bikes and toys. When it snows, university staff will be out in the very
early morning hours (around 4 am) using snow clearing equipment to
keep our sidewalks clear of snow to assist you in getting in to campus
and the bus stop safely. Bikes and toys left on the sidewalk or in the
parking lot may get covered with snow and cause a hazard for the
snow clearing crew. Please help them keep our community safe by
reminding your children to put their toys and bikes away when they
are done playing. Also, when the snow clearing crew are out, please
keep your children away from them and their equipment for their own
safety. Furthermore, remember that you are responsible for clearing
your own walkway and patio area of snow and ice. For snow shovels
and ice melt, contact your Community Coordinator.

To All Garden Club Members:
We are past the growing season for the year 2009, and it’s time to ask
every member in Garden Club to clean and prepare their garden plot
for inspection by Sunday November 1, 2009. There are plastic bags
provided in the sheds to use for your trash. The trash should be
dropped in the large dumpsters, where you drop your house trash, in
your areas. Thank you, and see you soon at the next announced
meeting in March of 2010.

FLU SEASON IS HERE:
This season, it is important for us all to do what we can to
stay healthy. Here are some tips:
- Wash your hands often with soap.
- Use antibacterial wipes or a multipurpose.

- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
- When coughing or sneezing, use a tissue; if you
don’t have a tissue, use your sleeves.
- Get a seasonal flu shot and the H1N1 vaccine.
The symptoms of H1N1 flu virus are similar to the
symptoms of seasonal flu and include:
- Fever - Cough
- Sore throat - Runny / stuffy nose
- Body aches - Headache
- Chills - Fatigue
If you are feeling particularly ill, visit Hartshorn. Also,
contact your professors as soon as possible to let them
know you will be missing classes while ill.
Help Keep Our Laundary Room Secure!
Residents, please do NOT letting anyone in the laundry
rooms who do not have keys and keep the laundry door
closed. Please monitor your laundry while it is in the
machines. Chairs and a table are provided in the room to
help you do some reading, use your laptop, and / or do
some homework while waiting. Thank you for helping keep
our laundry room secure!
Shovels and Ice Melt Available from your CC
Dear residents, Colder weather has arrived! As the snow
season continues, remember that you can pick up snow
shovels and ice melt from your CC’s patio. Just remember
to return the snow shovel to your CC when you are finished
using it. Be safe by keeping your walkway free from ice and
snow.
