DECIDE Framework Its used as guidelines in guiding the evaluation activities, in terms, selecting the suitable techniques and

etc.

1. Determine the goal (D) a. This phase is the phase where to clarify the user needs b. Have to establish what are the goals wanted to be achieved in the design of the proposed system. c. By establishing what goal to achieve it easy to choose the most suitable approach to use in conducting the evaluation since the goal identified will influence the chosen evaluation approach to be used. d. For example: i. Goal: Check to ensure that the final interface design is consistent,. ii. Suitable techniques: Heuristic evaluation 2. Explore the question (E) a. To be able to achieve the goal identified in the first stage, you need to find a way to achieve it by asking question that can lead a way on how to achieve the desired goal. b. Example: i. Take back the goal above (Check to ensure that the final interface design is consistent). ii. Question can be broken down like below: Is the interface metaphor used is consistent throughout the whole design or mapped with general description? Is the command used consistent? Is the hyperlinked use general practice color code or not? Is the terminology used confusing people? 3. Choose the evaluation paradigm & activities (C) a. Once identified the goals and listing the entire main question, need to choose the techniques based on it. b. Here combination of techniques can be used to obtain different perspective / view towards the design. c. Example: from the question it is mainly focusing on the usability and the utility of the design, so the suitable techniques to be used is heuristic & usability testing. Two techniques are being chosen because to obtain different view from user perspective and the expert perspective in enhancing the quality of the design. 4. Identify the practical issues (I) a. Need to identify the practical issues before starting to do the evaluation process. b. Practical issues is referring towards the resources need to be used to conduct the session. c. Such as:

i. Users its main aspect in doing the evaluation process because you have to identify the appropriate user based on the specific requirement that have been identified. (meaning suitable people to participate in the session) ii. Facilities & equipment identify what and how many equipment is needed to conduct the session. Example if you need to used video recording, where to put, user comfortable or not, how much n etc. iii. Schedule & budget constraints schedule the timing for conducting the session appropriately, making sure all data can be gathered and try not to drag too much of the user time. If need to pay the user, how much is the amount and how many of the user going to used. iv. Evaluation experts do you need to use expert or not? d. Decide how to deal with the ethical issues i. More referring to the ethical code. ii. Example: privacy people should be protected which is personal detail (details about health, employment, education, financial status, address and etc). iii. Example: create the informed consent form. e. Evaluate , interpret and present the data i. More referring in identifying is the techniques used is reliable in analyzing all the date retrieved (qualitative or quantitative), is the evaluation done able to find out the issues wanted to find (validity) and is there any biases occurs when the result are not that very clear.
