Story-Bawang Merah Bawang Putih

CONJUNCTIONS PREPOSITIONS INTERJECTIONS

A Very good morning to the honourable chairman, panel of judges, headmasters, teachers and my dear friends. Today I am going to tell a story titled Bawang Merah, Bawang Putih A long time ago Bawang Merah lived in the cruel household of her stepmother Mak Kundur and her sister Bawang Putih. Merah! Merah! Where is that lazy girl? Merah! Come here, you lazy girl! shouted Mak Kundur as she looked for her stepdaughter. Forgive me, Stepmother, I was at the back of the house, helping my mother, explained Bawang Merah as she was running towards Mak Kundur in a panic. Shortly after, Bawang Merahs mean stepsister came over. See, Mak, they have time to laze around and chat, and not cook lunch! I am hungry! said Bawang Putih. But Putih, I was only helping my mother for a moment, said Merah. How dare you talk back to us, you ungrateful Girl! shouted Mak Kundur . Labu! Teach your daughter some manners! Mak Kundur said rudely to Bawang Merahs mother. Carry all the firewood to the back and cook us lunch now! Both of you are the same! Good for nothing! the evil Mak Kundur ordered both mother and daughter. Bawang Merah longed for the days when her father was alive. Pak Ali, Bawang Merahs father had been married to Mak Labu for a long time, but they did not have any children. With Mak Labus permission, Pak Ali took a second wife by marrying Mak Kundur with the hope of getting a child. Mak Kundur was a beautiful woman, but, sadly, she had a wicked heart. Ever since she married Pak Ali, Mak Kundur was always jealous of the kind-hearted Mak Labu. About a year after the marriage, Mak Kundur became pregnant. Unexpectedly, a month after that, Mak Labu became pregnant, too! Pak Ali named Mak Kundurs daughter Bawang Putih while Mak Labus daughter was named Bawang Merah. When Pak Ali passed away, her stepmother and stepsister treated

Bawang Merah and her mother very badly. From the break of dawn till the fall of dusk, Bawang Merah and Mak Labu would do all the household chores. One day, while washing Mak Kundurs and Bawang Putihs clothes by the river, Mak Labu accidentally dropped Mak Kundurs favourite batik sarong into the river. Mak Kundur then came back to check on Mak Labu and became very angry when she realised what had happened. She pushed Mak Labu into the deep river. The heartless Mak Kundur stood watching and laughed at the drowning Mak Labu.Ha , ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. Suddenly, Mak Labu transformed into a gourami fish! Mak Kundur became displeased at the sight before her. She quickly got hold of a net and caught the fish! This time Ill make sure you die, Labu! shouted Mak Kundur. The wicked Mak Kundur cooked the fish in a curry and served it to Bawang Merah. Poor Bawng Merah ate the whole fish, though she was surprised at Mak Kundurs sudden act of kindness. After Bawang Merah had finishd eating, Mak Kundur happily told her what she had done to Mak Labu. Bawang Merah had the shock of her life! She had eaten her mother! She cried and cried.Still crying, Bawang Merah gathered all the fish bones and buried them in the forest. Mother, Im truly sorry. I didnt know what they did to you. Rest in peace, my beloved mother, cried Bawang Merah. From that day on, Bawang Merahs life worsened. For the smallest mistakes, Mak Kundur and Bawang Putih would torture her. One night, Bawang Merah had a dream. My dearest child, tomorrow go to the place in the forest where you buried the fish bones. There you will find a beautiful gift for you, said Mak Labu. The very next morning, Bawang Merah rushed to the forest. To her delight, she found a beautiful garden at the spot where she had buried the fish bones. In the middle of the garden, there was a huge banyan tree. A swing hung from one of the branches. Bawang Merah sat on the swing. Magically, the swing began to move by itself. She felt very happy with her mothers gift and started singing. Ever since that day, whenever she felt sad or lonely, Bawang Merah would go to the forest, sit on her magic swing and sing to her hearts content. One day, as the sultan and his men were out hunting in the forest, they heard an enchanting voice. Can you hear that beautiful voice? asked the sultan. Yes, Your Majesty. Its coming from over there, said one of his men. The sultan was mesmerized by

Bawang Merahs voice. When she left the garden, the men quietly followed her home. They came upon Mak Kundur and one of the sultans men asked, Madam, as we were hunting in the forest, we saw a young women singing on the swing. We followed her and saw her enter this house. Could she be your daughter? Our master would like to meet her with your permission. Hmm... looking at his clothes, this man must be rich! He must be interested in Bawang Merah. I must make sure he meets my daughter Putih instead, Mak Kundur thought to herself. Oh yes, kind sir, I have only one daughter, Bawang Putih. She always goes to the forest to sit on the swing. Let me go and get her, said Mak Kundur courteously.Inside the house, Mak Kundur forced Bawang Merah to give her the directions to the swing that the man was talking about and the tied her up in a room. And so, Mak Kundur and Bawang Putih left the house with the sultans men. When they arrived at the garden where the magic swing was, the sultan was delighted to meet Bawang Putih. He requested that she entertain them with a song. However, when Bawang Putih sat on the swing, the swing did not move at all. Mak Kundur persistently told Bawang Putih to sing anyways. But she sang so badly that the sultan ordered her to stop. This is not the girl who sang in the forest, the sultan said. He felt cheated. The sultan immediately ordered his men to search Mak Kundurs house. The men searched every corner of the house and found poor Bawang merah tied up in a small room. The men quickly released her. The sultan immediately fell in love with Bawang Merah and asked for her hand in marriage. Bawang Merah accepted the sultans proposal because she too fell in love with him due to his kindness and charm. The sultan wanted to punish Mak Kundur and Bawang Putih severely for all that they had done to Bawang Merah and her late mother. However, out of the kindness of her heart, Bawang Merah begged the sultan to forgive her stepmother and her stepsister. Mak Kundur and Bawang Putih continued to live in their small house and had to do all the household chores themselves. They were filled with regret at all that they had done. Bawang Merah returned to the palace with the sultan, where they both lived happily ever after .So, my dear friends the moral of this story is good things come to those who are kind and patient in the face of hardship.

A Bright Tomorrow

Painting a bright tomorrow begins here today. I get to choose the colours, I get to have my say, By how I think today. I can think in the very best way. I get to choose every day. My mind is like a brush, I paint with each thought. If I dont like the way things look, I look at the paints I brought And think a different way. I can think in the very best way. I get to choose every day. Yesterday is done, theres no way I can change it. Tomorrows not yet here, but I can pre-arrange it By how I live today. I can think in the very best way. I get to choose every day. If I dont like a colour I chose, I can create another shade. I can just paint over it again and again, till I am happy with what I made. Its all in how I choose to look, its all in how I choose to feel. The cup may look half empty, but half full is just as real. I choose to see the world, filled with love and grace. I choose to see myself, in the perfect time and place By how I think today. I can think in the very best way. I get to choose every day. So, painting a bright tomorrow begins here today. I get to choose the colours, I get to have my say By how I think today, by how I act today, By how I live today. I can think in the very best way. I get to choose every day.

LISTENING AND ANALYSING A SONG

Music is an amazing thing. The right inspiring lyrics, or motivational songs can provides a quick pick up to motivate us to accomplish our goals; or just a reminder about appreciating the beauty of the world that we live in

and provides that little lift that we occasionally need. No one can deny the joy in hearing an uplifting song in times of struggle, or maybe just even after a hard day at work .A bright Tomorrow is a song which means a lot to me and the song always make me happy and make me realize the journey of my life.

This particular song make me realize that today is just not another day, and the lyrics make me think again that today is all I have and can count on. Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow may not come. But today can be embraced and enjoyed and made the most of. How we live our days ishow we live our lives. Think about the amazing wisdom of that! If we spend our days stressed or fragmented or unhappy, those days accumulate into a stressed, fragmented, and unhappy life.

Our most beautiful day is today! If were not careful we will miss today by being fooled about tomorrow. The good book says take no thought for tomorrow in other words dont worry about what is to come but rather pay attention to what is in front of you. Even though you may have a vision for what you want your future to be, it is really in your present day that the manifestation will come. In other words today counts and what you do with it will determine how fulfilled your purpose will be. I remember talking to a person one time who said to me no matter what I do whatever is going to happen is going to happen. I remember thinking to myself first off thats not true and second how sad of a life it would be to not feel like what you did or said mattered. The reality is that what you do and say does matter. Even in the book of James it says, that a mans faith and his actions were working together and his faith was made complete by what he did.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY II 2014

I believe that in order to have each day filled with purpose you must first get to a place in life where your mind is free. Constantly we are challenged in our mind or mental state of being when it comes to what we can and cannot do. Through time and much living we determine boundaries for ourselves not allowing room for growth or freedom. One thing you can do to move forward from this type of problem is to not dwell or entertain thoughts of past failures. Remember the best of the best had to adopt the mentality that leaving the past means just that leave it in the past. I like to say it this way, Past thoughts are for stepping stones not stumbling blocks. So whatever has become your past be it good or bad you have to get over it and move on away from it. We have to be careful of how we speak of back in the day stuff because your words charge your emotions. This kind of emotional charge will then find its way to your attitude and cause for what was supposed to be a happy time in your life to become a tough time in your life. And the whole thing happened because you spoke of something that shouldve been left in the past.

It is also important to stay focus on your dreams when living a purpose driven life. I like to think that dreams are Gods intervention into our souls that reach beyond our present to show and give opportunity for what can be in our future life. Every now and then God comes in between are reality and our destiny and drops a thought that unlocks the door to show us the other side. Your dreams are awards given and tailor made just for you, which means you are worthy of your dream. When you know that you deserve something it causes you to fight for it and own up to it. You need to know that your dreams are not mistakes or empty wishes but purposeful desires given to you by divine inspiration. Nevertheless you have to be careful of distractions from people with different agendas and un-healthy environments that kill dreams. As you live each day with this way of thinking it will bring you closer to your dreams and destiny in life.

I would like to dedicate this song for my friends for many reasons. The main reason why my friends must listen to this song is just to make them understand the reality of life. The thing about life is its completely unpredictable. Any of us could wake up tomorrow and lose our job, lose someone we love or realize we have a life-threatening disease. The point is, you never know. So dont wait until tomorrow to be happy. Choose happiness today and enjoy every single moment you have.

16

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY II 2014

Who do you think gets more accomplished in an average day? The person who is optimistic, happy, and driven or the person who spends his energy complaining, and venting about how his life isnt fair? Happy people, in general, are more productive and are more likely to accomplish their goals than unhappy people.

It seems as if every week we hear about a new tragedy that makes us question the human spirit. Unfortunately, we live in a world where there will inevitably be war, famine, poverty, and destruction. But heres the thing: good always trumps evil. The actions of one happy person can create a ripple effect that can literally change the world. So be the change you wish to create. Choose happiness. Be happy for this moment. This moment is your life. - Omar Khayyam No matter how sick, tired, sad, or unhappy you are, theres one thing you can still be grateful for and thats the fact that youre still here. People we love leave us unexpectedly on a regular basis. Think about what you would do if you knew this was your last day on earth? Would you spend it brooding and thinking about all the stuff you dont have? Probably not. Youd make an effort to spend time with those you love most, to relax, laugh and live.

In most surveys, married people are happier than unmarried people. That doesnt mean you need to be married to attain happiness. What it means is that when you choose to be happy, youre more likely to have better work relationships and better relationships with friends, family members, and other loved ones. If you need another reason why you should be happy right now, heres a good one: research shows a direct correlation between health and happiness. Happy people tend to take better care of themselves by exercising more and eating healthier than unhappy folks.

So dont wait until tomorrow choose happiness now! The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts: therefore, guard accordingly, and take care that you entertain no notions unsuitable to virtue and reasonable nature.

3.0 REFLECTION

Learning English is fun, it is a valuable statement which comes from my language teacher Mrs Kala who taught me in primary school. Now, I recall the statement because I have gained many things through this language. I am Pavitheera d/o Tamil Silvam doing third semester in Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Tuanku Bainun. I really had hard time since I was small to learn English. I always remember that my teacher like to scold me for not speaking in English. I dont know why, until today I feel nervous to speak in English.

Now, my language lecturer here is Mr. Tarsame Singh S/O Masa Singh. When he first entered the class I was really scared that he will ask me to speak. But I was a bit happy because I managed to understand his explanation and instructions. After so long, Ive gone through the real learning process by completing this task. Even tough, my English is not that good, but I managed to improve and recover myself by take this opportunity as a challenge. Mr. Tarsame Singh S/O Masa Singh also encouraged us to speak out by doing analyses sentences from the task based on conjunction, preposition and interjection give clear and detailed explanation of the rules applied on an assignment.

Firstly, after I got my task, I was upset and worried about my language but when I discussed with my friends I was able to draft my task. Ive collected some details conjunction, preposition and interjection about from the internet and analyse sentences from the task. Later, I give clear and detailed explanation of the rules that I applied. Ive referred many books before I finish mine I had a great time on creatin g writing the task and I hope I can improve my language by doing this type of assignments. I am Major music student I am normally listen and play the song only and I analyse the rhythm, expression and etc. on that songs. On this task I have to analyse the lyrics of the song. This is a new experience for me because I am analysing a song for a first time. With the analyse of song I know a lot of values in the lyrics of the song.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY II 2014

Although at the beginning I was scared but now after being thought by him, I feel like I am refreshing my mind and knowledge on English. I always can listen understand the language but cant speak out. Mr. Tarsame Singh S/O Masa Singh uses simple English to make us understand the language better. Still yet, the only problem that I am facing at this moment is fear to speak in this language. Its all because of no continuous practice and scared of doing mistakes. But, I promised to myself to overcome this problem and now in advance I started to speak simple but correct English with my roommate. Hopefully I can overcome this problem with the help of my friends and also the lecturers. I hope I can share my knowledge about the grammar with others and try to implement it in my future learning and teaching process.

To improve the grammatical errors, I signed up in an educational website (ego4u.com). Im doing practices and worksheets in this website to develop my grammar. To make it more interesting I also play some language games. These games not only played for fun, it also teaches English in an interesting way. I can say learning English is Fun at this point.

I hope the experience and knowledge I gained throughout this course improved my language skill. It also will be helpful when I become a teacher one day. Practice makes a man perfect. So I will keep practicing and work hard to improvise my English language. I will never give up and try my best to achieve my goal. At this moment I would like to thank Mr. Tarsame Singh S/O Masa Singh of his great activities and lessons which made me take decision on speaking English. Of course learning English is fun because Mr. Tarsame Singh S/O Masa Singh thought me how to love the language.
