Upgrading from ACDSee 4.0 ---------------------------When you upgrade from ACDSee 4.0, it is recommended that you convert your databa se to an ACDSee 5.0.1 database. Converting your older database transfers your da tabase information so that you won't have to reenter items such as keywords, ima ge descriptions, and dates. 1.1 Converting an older ACDSee database 1. Click Tools | Database | Convert Database. 2. Select the desired .ddf file. 3. Click Open. ------------------------------2. Adding files to the database ------------------------------ACDSee adds items to the database as your browse your files. You can use the Cat alog utility to add groups of files to the database without first having to brow se the files. 2.1 Cataloging files in the database 1. Click Tools | Database | Catalog Files. 2. Click the Browse button. 3. Select a folder of files that you want to catalog. 4. Click OK. 5. Select or change the Catalog options. 6. Click OK.

Known issues in ACDSee 5.0.1 ------------------------------1. Encoding multi-page DCX files does not work correctly - only the single page DCX files can be encoded. 2. Decoding a gray-scale TIFF with JPEG compression does not work correctly. 3. ACDSee cannot convert a multi-page TIFF to itself. 4. Images on Photo Discs cannot be associated with Categories. 5. Exiting ACDSee while a long operation is in progress (like copying or moving significant numbers of files) may cause ACDSee to fail. Wait for the operation to complete before exiting ACDSee. 6. SendPix may fail if it is the very first function used after a fresh install of ACDSee. 7. Photo Disc s update function does not correctly deal with CDs whose structure h as changed. Drag and Drop issue.

8. When the screen is set to 16-bit color, and an image is acquired from the cli pboard and then saved as a BMP, the image will be black. Save to another format . 9. Changing the user interface layout while the View tab is displayed may cause the screen to refresh incorrectly. Restarting will refresh the interface correc tly. 10. Slides shows created with multi-page files as part of the file list, but whe re the first file is a single image file, may not work correctly. 11. Printing from ACDSee without the default printer connected may cause errors. 12. Browsing an empty disk or CD may display: "Warning: an error occurred while reading the contents of this folder." 13. If the ACDSee database date for an image is changed, the calendar view infor mation is not updated. Press the F5 key to refresh the calendar view. 14. The file replace interaction may produce the message: "[file name]: Cannot c reate a file when that file already exists." when replacing a read-only file. 15. Rotating or flipping an image in multi-page files when applied to all pages of the current image may not work correctly when multiple images are selected an d the first image has only one page. 16. Inserting an ampersand (&) into an image description will cause an underscor e to display in the Thumb+Details mode. To display an ampersand, enter 2 in a r ow (&&). 17. Choosing a folder in the folder tree and choosing "Move to" from the Edit me nu causes a spurious error message. The move completes successfully. Moving fr om the file list view works correctly. 18. Moving or copying files in ACDSee will retain any category information assoc iated with the file. If the file is moved with a program other than ACDSee, the category information will be lost. 19. Occasionally the printing dialog can be hidden behind another window. Press ing Alt-Tab and selecting ACDSee will correct the problem. 20. Choosing the "Reset to Default" function from the Options dialog will reset the file display mode to Thumbnails. 21. The "New Media Detected" dialog box may display when a CD drive drawer is cl osed, even if these is no disk in the drive. 22. GIF comments are not preserved when an image is resized, rotated or the expo sure changes. 23. ACDSee's RAR support does not include RAR 3.0. 24. Specifying slide show options on the command line will not work correctly if a wild carded (e.g. *.JPG) filename is included. Also, for reversed slideshows , the first image in the directory always appears first, followed by the rest in reverse order. 25. Certain QuickTime (.mov) files do no display correctly when the zoom size is 100%.

26. Browsing a network shortcut from the Browser Pane is very much slower than b rowsing via the Network Neighborhood. 27. ASF and WMV files cannot be played on Win98 unless Windows Media Player v7.1 or later is installed. 28. The Help hint for Sort by Date is incorrect - ACDSee sorts by 'Last modified time' not 'Creation time'. 29. The timeline slider may not function correctly with videos longer than 35 mi nutes. 30. Thumbnails on folders no not correctly refresh when the sort order is change d. 31. Viewing the license agreement may cause "spool32" errors if there is no defa ult printer attached to the system. 32. Batch rename does not work for files selected from the Calendar or Category views. 33. If Photo Discs images disappear from the file list pane when browsing in Pro perties view, restart ACDSee to see the images again. 34. Entering very large (1000 or more) values into the thumbnail size values wil l cause odd behavior in the browser. 35. After changing the "Connect to ACDInTouch automatically" option, ACD InTouch must be started for the option to be recognized. 36. The progress indicator may appear to "stick" halfway through a resize operat ion when working on very small files.
