Personnel: Corporal Dave Hallback has been off with the work comp injury and has been cleared to return to light duty capacity on Monday. No date has been set for when he will be clear to return to regular duties. Staff has been busy in preparation of our new hire. Officer Kristina Kohlmeyer is scheduled to be appointed at the April 1 council meeting. She is scheduled to begin working April 12 and will formally be sworn in at the April 15 council meeting. The addition of officer Kohlmeyer does not expand the size of the police department, but is part of the replacement for an anticipated retirement. I will be out of the office for the first three days of next week while attending the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Conference in Rochester, Minnesota. I will be taking vacation the remainder of the week. Detectives: Last Friday afternoon Detective Holman and K-9 partner Raja assisted the BCA with a vehicle search that resulted in 120 g of methamphetamine. The investigation is ongoing. Also last Friday Detective Holman and K-9 partner Raja assisted the Duluth Police Department with a search that resulted in 23 g of methamphetamine being recovered. This week detectives made a traffic stop that resulted in one male and one female being arrested for the possession of methamphetamine. The investigation is ongoing.

Also this week detectives have identified at least one suspect who burglarized an apartment on 8th Street where $600 in cash and a prescription of methadone. Detectives continue to work the investigation in hopes of identifying two other suspects. Patrol: With another snow event, officers continue to be busy with snow related calls for service. Officers responded to several snow related accidents and towed a dozen vehicles early Friday morning. Friday morning officers and members of the fire district responded to a two car accident at the Highway 33 and Highway 35 intersection, south of town. The driver of one of the vehicles was transported to a Duluth hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Slippery roadways may have been a factor in the crash.
