To the faulty of Sierra Nevada College: This letter serves as my highest recommendation for Dr. Kings promotion to the position of Associate Professor. I first met Dr. King in August 2012, when I began Sierra Nevada Colleges Honor program. He has since become a mentor and teacher of mine, and is without question one of the most outstanding Professors I have met in my years as a student. Dr. King is a careful and articulate thinker, with a keen sense for details. He possesses an ability to draw on his erudition and observations to develop thoughtful opinions on a variety of issues. These skills are applied during our Honor program meetings alongside assisting the honors students during personal projects. Dr. King has bolstered my educational growth while in the Honors program: helping me with my honors projects, fundraising ideas, along with providing strategic and editorial assistance while I applied to MBA programs. He has never said no always being available, whether it is in person or through email. Dr. Kings role instituting Sierra Nevada Colleges Honors program was not an easy task. I was in the initial cohort that joined honors and attest to the leadership that he exhibited. Being keystone to the program, he created the colloquium course and the material that accompanies it. As with a requirement for the colloquium course, he encouraged students to attend and participate in a variety of salon type activities. This requirement had me think outside of the box as to what I could do. I decided on my first TEDx event in San Francisco Bay. That experience has not only led to me attending more TEDx events, but also gave me an opportunity to meet professionals in fields of study that I may never have met. Those experiences have given me new knowledge, connections, and networking skills that I will continuously use throughout my life. It also strengthened my convictions to attain an MBA. Dr. Kings regular contributions to in-class discussions and active learning are also of importance. During classes, Dr. King challenged students, compelling them to evaluate problem, theories and actively participate in discussions. This teaching philosophy is extremely valuable to students as it creates an engaged education. I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. King for the position of Associate Professor. He is someone who will make great contributions to Sierra Nevada College, its students and beyond.
