President
The Presidents role is to act as the figurehead of Film Appreciation Society. The President
will oversee and organise all the workings of the society as well as organising and chairing
meetings of the committee. They serve as the point of call for all enquiries which do not fall
under the other positions. Despite being developed collectively between committee
members, the President will have the final say on programming including themes for
certain months. The President will be aided closely in their role by the Vice President.
The President must generally ensure that there is cohesiveness in the committee and
oversee all the actions of Film Appreciation Society as a whole.
Vice President
The Vice President will work closely with the President and the rest of the committee on
the day-to-day running of the society. This can range from everything from working on
programming ideas to sourcing DVDs for upcoming screenings; in the case of the
President being unavailable, they will work as the overseer of the committees actions. The
Vice President will be in charge of organising room bookings for regular screenings on
campus, as well as working with the Liaison Officer(s) with regards to organising events
and finding venues off campus. The Vice President will also manage the societys
finances, meaning ensuring that the accounts are kept in shape with the Students Union,
and that committee members are reimbursed out of the societys account when
appropriate, as well as helping to manage and organise any potential fundraising events
the society decides to hold.
Liaison Officer(s)
The Liaison Officer(s) role is to act as an intermediary between Film Appreciation Society
and other socieites/bodies with whom we hope to collaborate. This can be for specific days
or perhaps for a month-long theme run in tandem with another society (such as our Black
History Month and LGBTQ History Months seasons). Equally, the Liaison Officer(s) can
organise joint screenings of one-off films, with organisational duties split between two
societies or bodies and with collaborative introductions, for example. The Liaison officer
must:
"
Establish which events the society would like to collaborate with others for
Arrange these events very much in advance
Work with the societies themselves to sensitively establish mutual agreement over the
programming. Discussions surrounding programming will also take place within our
committee
Notify the committee well in advance of confirmed collaborations for room-bookings to be
organised
It will be the Liaison Officer(s) responsibility to try and organise new and original kinds of
screenings with the help of others, such as late night cult film screenings or off-campus
events.
