Directed by Josh Cole, this music video is set in the streets of Manila, Philippines. Based on two pathways two boys have chosen to take; involving real life situations of a young boy who has fallen into the life of gangs and another boy who has fallen into wanting to achieve something. The video begins with a short brief introduction of a run down city that follows into a slum with a man who we can assume is the father beating a woman (who is the mother) in front of the two boys. Gradually into the video we see the two boys escaping to live their own life and to try a survive it- the clip then turns to the boys stealing from a market and peoples wallets. This is probably what the boys have learnt and been taught to survive from the parents- as they don't live a wealthy lifestyle. This next part we see the two boys separating into two different paths, we see the contrasting lifestyle between how the two boys are now living. The video shows that the young boy chooses the wrong pathway which leads into gangs and ended up getting killed. Whilst the other young boy succeeds just because he "didn't give in"- relating to the song lyrics.

Overall I think this music video shows a great example how the choices in life that one person can make can change our lives forever. Which I think was the artists intention was to get across to the audience. This all relates to the lyrics of the chorus of the song "Not giving in" which can refer to the life they were livingthat they didn't want to spend their life locked away with their abusive father and to want to succeed. The message within this music video simply refers to the lesson that has been shown about taking the wrong route shows bad consequences later in life.

Parody
For one of our tasks given, we had to recreate a parody version of a music video. A parody is a recreation of a video, which can imitate or mock the original version of the product. We chose to recreate Britney Spears Baby One More Time. We picked this as we already had the resources needed, as it was set in a secondary school that would be very recognizable for the audience watching.

There were three of us in a group- (Me, Keri and Lacey) involving all of us to have a specific role when creating this. I was the editor, Lacey was the director and Keri was script/scene writer. Overall I think this was a really fun activity to do, as it gave us a chance to make something creative by adding humor into the video.

The three main music video types is; Performance, Narrative and Concept. Performance: A Performance video focuses on showing the artist or band within the video: either socializing with friends, a stage performance or performing in a casual environment. It is performed through the artist miming the lyrics of the song. This also involves recording a variety of camera angles of the artist/band. An example I have found of a performance music video is: "What You Know" By Two Door Cinema Club

This screenshot is of the band performing in the band performing in the music video Narrative: The Narrative is mainly based on the story line of the music video, and how elements are structured to fit and make sense of the audiences view. Within a narrative music video it usually involves the lyrical content of the song. This is so the story of the video relates and links to the lyrics of the song. A perfect example that I have chosen which uses the subject Narrative is: Taylor Swift ft Ed Sheeran: "Everything has changed". This is shown to present Narrative because there is a gradual development through time where we see 2 children going to school together creating and growing a childhood friendship.

However at the end of the video we see their actual character just seen as a younger version of themselves, who is Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran. This link to Narrative because the lyrics "Everything has changed" as we see towards the ending the change.

Concept: The idea around a Concept video is to be more creative and unique when filming and editing the video. This can normally look quite strange and different as they don't usually follow a structured narrative (storyline). This content usually attracts other audiences which they find intriguing and sometimes surreal as it adds random concepts of the video which sometimes doesn't make sense.

The Star Image

Lady Gagas image in this video is shown to the audience to be very wild and outrageous. This is seen in her clothes she was wearing; even though she was inside a house, she was wearing dark glasses to present a fashion statement. However one of Lady Gagas signature looks is her hairstyle; this consists of her striking blonde bold fringe and long hair. Most of her fans see her as a style icon because of this look.

Taylor Swift: Taylor Swifts mode of address is the way she connects to the audience by looking straight at the camera. Taylor Swift becomes the narrator telling the story to the audience, this is empowering because it gives the impression that she is telling a personal view on her life. She focuses on a specific age group; younger teenagers. This is shown in the music video, as there are younger audience members within the video dancing with Taylor.

Analysis Of "Protection"
The music video Protection (1994) by Massive Attack begins with the camera tracking a daughter and father. The camera follows them going into a lift. From this shot, the camera expands and crosses rooms from a birds eye video point into the other rooms of flats. This allows the audience to see the other characters that live within the flat. From this camera technique, the audience can see the surroundings, which makes the narrative more clear. In the rooms we see all different ages, from an old woman who is locking her front door with 5 locks (this could resemble that she's scared to be alone and needs protection), to young children sleeping in the rooms. This gives the audience an impression that everyone has their own different story. Towards the end of the video we see the father leave the block of flats alone and the car seat is empty which could suggest that he doesn't live with her. This could relate to the song by protecting his daughter. The editing with this was very basic and minimal due to the long continuous camera shots. When filming this, the set was actually made and the camera was filmed horizontally over the set. I think this was a really clever and creative way to film a music video, as audience wouldn't automatically realize that it was filmed this way. However the obvious part where I realized that it was filmed this way was 4.00 minutes into the video. Where the guy is continuously throwing the ball, which is coming towards the audiences view.

Why is the public row between the music artists Sinead O'Connor and Miley Cyrus important in understanding the relationship between artistes and between artiste and audience? Explore with reference to the representation of women, media institutions and the role of media

Recently in the news there has been the most controversial discussion over the new video release by Miley Cyrus, "Wrecking Ball". 24 hours on YouTube this hit over 20 million views breaking records from previous stars. The video involves Miley performing in an explicit manner on a wrecking ball naked and seductively licking a sledgehammer. Over the last month since the video was released, the audiences have been complaining over social media websites; Twitter, Facebook and YouTube about Miley's unacceptable behavior. The reason for why this video has escalated into a whole big story is because young audiences see her as a role model and inspire to be like her, due to her past starting career as Hannah Montana, on the Disney Channel. Since the outage of this video and her video previously "We Can't Stop" which also involves her acting inappropriately, people are seeing Miley in a different light. However the critics weren't the only people to be shocked and horrified over this, many famous stars have been devastated about how Miley has transformed into a different woman.

"They will prostitute you for all you are worth, and cleverly make you think its what YOU wanted"- Sinead O'Connor. The statement by famous Irish star Sinead O'Connor gives this ambiguous impression Miley Cyrus is selling herself to the public eye to make money. Miley's potentially has done this to get more audiences speaking about her. However, the audiences reaction was outrageous and Miley has succeeded by making everyone worldwide speaking about her. The argument first started when Miley was interviewed and admitted and said to the press that her video was inspired by Sinead OConnors"Nothing Compares". This was due to the style of the video. This contains a close up shot of the singers face with tears coming from her eyes whilst singing. Sinead was deeply offended by this comment as she thought Miley Cyrus' video was disgusting and was insulted that she even compared herself to Sinead.

In an open letter, Sinead wrote a statement about what Miley Cyrus was doing and how women in todays society has changed rapidly due to females wanting attention. This was an example of how Miley has acted in her video- to try and get attention. After Miley had found out about what Sinead had said, she tweeted "Before Amanda Bynes There was." along with listed tweets mocking Sinead from when she was going through a serious breakdown and then comparing her to the troubled Amanda Bynes, who was also a Disney role model. Deliberately knowing her intense fan base would have a strong reaction towards this tweet, Miley posted this. Resulting Sinead to threaten Miley saying she will take serious actions towards this and said she will get her lawyers involved if she didn't take down the tweet. However to some extent this change in Miley may simply be because she wants to grow out of the child stage where she first started. Miley has always had the limelight of being a golden inspiration child to many of the younger audience viewers. So this could possibly be the reason for why Miley is changing her status and representation of how people see her. In todays society the representation of women is more explicit over media as a lot of the context is over rated and how a lot of the things written in the media is made up or a changed content. Critics say Miley has transformed into this person to portray herself in the wrong manner to try getting the attention she wants. This attention will not be from her younger fan base, as she is purely doing this for "the male gaze" which is from Laura Mulvey's theory. This approach interprets how the audience has to view characters from the perspective of men, usually devaluing women to the status of an object. The director of is a male, Terry Richardson, so this is noticeable that in Miley's video she is implying that she is an "object" by acting in a sexual manner on a wrecking ball aiming to fit the criteria of "the male gaze". In conclusion of this whole discussion, it is shown that arguments between the relationships of artists and audiences can extremely cause different views towards the public. As a result of Miley actions, she has continuously gained publicity views and still she is constantly been spoke about in the media. Since this argument with Sinead, I think she has gained if anything, respect for speaking up to Miley and saying what she was doing was wrong. However, Miley is still a role model to a lot of people.

Final Cut

As a result of being the editor, my role was to put together the whole of the music video. This came with understanding the new editing software we were using Final Cut. I was not aware of this software, as from last year we used iMovie to edit our film trailer. So this required a lot more work and practice into understanding this software.

accurate

My first practice editing was our example of how we wanted one of the scenes to turn out. (The boy and girl bumping into each other). This gave me the time to understand how to use the precision tool, which allows cut between two clips.

This software also allowed more effects to use and transitions however on iMovie there were limited affects to use and quite dull. Another thing that was easier with Final Cut, was the layout of the clips. You could just drag each clip so they overlap each other, therefore you wouldnt need to keep cutting each clip to fit in.
