Lesson Plan- Drama

Descriptive Title for lesson: Drama Activity: Acting out the Nativity

Subject: Drama

Level: 4 years

Instructional Goal: Children will become aware of the origins of Christmas by re-enacting the story of the nativity.

Age Range: 4+

Previous Knowledge: Students should be familiar with the concept of Jesus birth in a stable and the song away in a manger.

Lesson Pre- Assessment: Students will match the correct name to the characters displayed on the wall - Mary, Joseph, The Shepherds, The wise men, the Inn Keeper.

Rationale for Teaching Strategies Selected: Role playing activity was selected to solidify the information they gathered from the story in order for them to remember it.

Peer Tutoring- this was used for the younger students to observe the older students so they could see what is a suitable way to re-enact the nativity story.

Story telling- this was used to engage the children through their senses which are seeing and hearing for them to learn.

Computer based instruction- this was used to draw the childrens attention with pictures and music.

Journal- this was used so that children can look back in the future and remember what they learned that day and also to further solidify the information received in the session.

Objectives Organized by Domain: Cognitive: 85% of children 4 years and older will learn about the nativity story while re-enacting Jesus birth. Affective: 85% of children 4 years will show interest in the birth of Jesus Christ by asking questions and having an excitement to take part in the play. Psychomotor- 85% of children will develop their gross motor skills by walking for a long distance to represent the Journey to Bethlehem.

Contingency Plan: In case of the failure of the technology, a hard copy of the book the nativity story will be held close by. Also, the students will be allowed to gather instruments from the music centre and will sing away in a manger acapella.
