Job Shadow Reflection

1.) Was the job shadow you completed the same career field you identified in your career PowerPoint? If you completed the experience in another field, explain why there was a need to change career fields. The job shadow that I completed wasnt the same as my career PowerPoint . My career PowerPoint included me being a neurologist, however I realized that being an anesthesiologist would be a lot more manageable and easier for me to do. 2.) As a result of your job shadow experience, are you still planning to pursue the same career or has the experience led you in a new direction? Explain. As a result of my job shadowing experience, I am still planning to pursue the career of anesthesiology. The reason why is because shadowing an actual anesthesiologist was the most exciting experience in my life, and also that I feel like I have the experience that I need to pursue this career. 3.) During your job shadow, what skills did you observe that are needed to be proficient at this career? During my job shadow, the skills that I have observed were essential to me being able make sure that every patient is comfortable. The skills that I learned included different ways of explaining the details of certain procedures to different patients, and also making sure that they know the risks of surgical procedures.

4.) What activities and or duties did you like/dislike about the experience? The activities that I like about this experience was the fact that your only needed when a doctor asks for assistance, such as giving local anesthesia to a patient before his or hers surgery. The thing that I disliked about the activity was the fact that it was mostly boring because after you assist a doctor they might not need you again until after surgery which can take hours. 5.) Do you see yourself doing this job for the duration of your working career? Yes, I see myself doing this job for the duration of 20 years because, I feel like once Im comfortable with the process and getting familiar with patients, this career will continue to be more interesting to me. 6.) Aside from academic preparation in school, what are some other things that you can do in order to prepare for your intended career field? In order to prepare for my intended career field, I plan to continue shadowing my mentor to get more familiar with the workplace to eventually make my job easier after get my degree. 7.) Is there any important tips and or advice you were given by your mentor concerning your career field? The tips that my mentor gave me in order get an advantage in my career field involved reading to more book about the history of anesthesiology before I take the college courses needed to be an anesthesiologist. 8.) Considering everything you have learned, what is most valuable lesson you have learned from your job shadowing experience, and how will this help you to move forward in your intended career field? The most valuable lesson that I have learned from my job shadowing experience was that although this career may be a little difficult to pursue, I

feel like I now have the motivation to do what is needed to push myself through those obstacles.
