Why Study in the College of Computer Information Technology at AUE?


The College of Computer Information Technology (CCIT) promotes new and exciting ways to use computer technology in different roles. The course is meant for young and creative individuals and critical thinkers who are innovative and curious and who wish to change society. The college provides students with an exceptional educational experience, enabling them to attain their full potential. The CCIT offers two programs at undergraduate level namely Computer Science and Information Technology Management (ITM). In Computer Science, the students can choose to specialize in one of two areas, i.e. Digital Forensics or Network Security.

Objectives
Have a broad knowledge in key areas of computer science Think independently and progress as computer professionals Apply scientific and engineering methodology to the design implementation, analysis and evaluation of computer-based systems Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and function effectively in teams to accomplish common goals

Learning Outcomes
Obtain employment in the computing fields and gain acceptance into graduate schools Be able to acquire broad knowledge of the theoretical foundations of computer science Be able to use knowledge in the fundamental areas of computer science i.e. programming languages operating systems, computer architecture and software engineering Gain substantial knowledge in one key area of computer science in order to specialize in areas like network security, digital forensics and information technology Develop communication skills to liaise effectively with clients, peers and professionals, and become an effective problem solver in the team Understand contemporary legal, social and ethical issues in employing technology around the world

DIGITAL FORENSICS
CCIT pioneers a specialized program in Digital Forensics that brings together aspects of technology, forensics and risk management across the above disciplinary area. The idea is a continuum of thoughts within the industry stakeholders in developing expertise in digital forensic investigation, enterprise security, criminology, prevention of hostile cyber-behavior, criminal activity and breach of rules and procedures in a network centric environment. This includes using risk analysis to develop better and safer practices and procedures. The program aims to develop skills in understanding, pin pointing, identifying, investigating and preventing electronic crimes through appropriate security measures.

Objectives
To understand computer networks, internet and security apparatus To appreciate the legal aspects of an investigation in the context of electronic crime To consider risk management as part of electronic environments To efficiently apply learned expertise to the technical content of computer forensics investigations and to reach to a successful conclusion To develop policies to eliminate and reduce electronic crimes

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT


The CCIT offers yet another specialized program in the field of Information Technology Management. The program has been designed by information technology professionals to ensure the course helps students to succeed in the IT industry, while developing an understanding of efficient business operations to help students to evolve as successful entrepreneurs. The subject is vast and web-centric and allows a wide usage of information technology for all sectors of development. The course focuses on the effective use of technology, human-computer interaction issues, management concerns and techniques to improve individual communication and leadership skills and learn how to make technology more usable.

NETWORK SECURITY
The CCITs innovative Network Security specialization program is offered to meet critical business environment needs on a full time basis. The demand for security specialists in this area is constantly growing. So, maintaining secure systems and guarding company information are considered essential. Learners in this program are introduced to communication and information computer security and network technologies that have become key factors in todays economic and societal development. The concerns about security of electronic networks and information systems have grown along with the rapid increase in network users and the value of their transactions. Security has now reached a critical point where it represents a prerequisite for the growth of electronic businesses and economic functions.

Objective
To increase ability to assess and understand information security risks and human factors and their implications To develop and evaluate tools and resources currently available to limit risk and to mitigate the effects of hostile action and attack To design, implement and maintain software systems created to support security policy planning To manage the development, implementation and evolution of a security infrastructure To assess and recommend the impact of policy, legislation, compliance requirements and market trends on organizational security objectives

Masters in Library & Information Science


The graduate program in Library and Information Science is expected to be one of the enduring successes of the American University in the Emirates, bringing together a mixture of theory and practice that truly demonstrates activities found in the workplace. The course will enable learners to obtain a professionally accredited graduate level qualification. The course also focuses on the digital transition of recent years, coupled with high level skills in organizing, managing and retrieving information using modern tools and techniques.

Aims

Admission Requirements
TOEFL 550+ A successful undergraduate degree in any discipline (CGPA not less than 2.5) Preference may be given to candidates with work experience in a related field

Funding and Scholarships


The University provides funding based on the performance of the members of the course. Students securing 85% or above in their previous course are eligible to 15-20% free waivers and with excellent result an additional 10% tution fees can be waived. The university is now planning to secure education loans from academic donor agencies for the students.

Course Content & Benefits


The program is delivered on a full-time basis in campus at Dubai International Academic City. Undergraduates from any discipline are welcome to undertake their studies in this field. The program enables both the understanding and application of how information is organized, structured, retrieved, managed and disseminated for documentation and business activities.

Student Experience and Participation


This is an intensive, though enjoyable and engaging graduate program using a range of teaching techniques focused around lectures, tutorials, group-work, seminars and laboratory sessions. The idea is to integrate theory with professional and vocational practices allowing students to develop an understanding of the principles and ideas of contemporary information management. Students will also have the opportunity to work independently or with minimal guidance. Students will be encouraged to reflect on the role of the information professional against the wider context of the legal and ethical issues involved

Practicum & Internship


The internship is a mandatory component of MLIS program. This offers students an opportunity to apply acquired theories to the professional environment. It has been found to be enormously beneficial to the students and particularly valuable in informing and developing ideas and theories for the dissertation
