FOUNDATION PROGRAM

AUE Foundation Program


AUE has created a new program especially for high school graduates who need additional skills to be able to enter into one of the AUE colleges. The program was rst launched in Feb, 2010. It is designed to build skills that allow you to grow and prepare you to be a future university graduate. The foundation program is offered over two semesters and the courses serve as a bridge to more advanced learning. A student can select the foundation program if their high school GPA is less than 60%. Successful completion of the program opens the doors to a variety of undergraduate programs at AUE Three courses are offered in the rst semester and three in the second semester. The courses cover key skills that are essential for a smooth transition between semesters and ultimately to the undergraduate program of choice. AUEs foundation program focuses on active learning with clear and concise skills in speech and writing in both English and Arabic. In addition, literacy and information literacy, numeracy is stressed as learners practice manipulating numbers. Of all the skills, the foundation program offers, exposures to study and learning skills. The biggest success of the program is a when a student has achieved a success and assured the status of lifelong learner

The Foundation Program Learning Outcomes


Produce spoken English with some fluency Produce clear and detailed syntax in English Demonstrate an ability to edit and correct own work Solve linear equations, fractional expressions and inequalities Recall scientific facts and apply simple experimental techniques from various scientific disciplines Describe a set of real numbers, understand measurement, and simplify rational expressions Use computer applications such as word to manage les, format tables, work with spreadsheets and access to the internet Identify different learning styles, including their own, and apply study skills which match their own preferred style

Program
(6 Credit Hours) General Math 1 Study and Learning Skills Information Technology or equivalent Communication Skills in Arabic Language Communication Skills in English. Student should achieve 500 score in PBT (In house TOEFL Exam) General Math 2 (for students who intend to join engineering and medical schools)

Duration and Course Profile


Pass mark less than 60% Two semesters 60 Hours for each course 16 weeks for each course Study days - Friday & Saturday Three courses in each semester

Entry Requirements
Students graduating from high school with less than 60% in the UAE and Arab countries Students graduating with same scores from non-Arab countries need permission from the Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research, UAE 400 score in PBT TOEFL (In-house TOEFL) or band 4 in IELTS
