1 Introduction
"his /escription descri es the 5eneral )erformance Event 1andling 65)E17 function and events for the 'adio Net!or% (ontroller 6'N(7. "he 'N( can log different types of events$ see ,ection 2 for more details. "he events are collected in 5)E1 data files$ see ,ection +. Events to e recorded are specified in scanners$ also called performance monitorings. "he 'N( provides 2+ scanners 60...2*7 at node startup$ all empty. "he 8perations ,upport ,ystem 'adio and (ore 68,,-'(7 is used to specify the contents and activate the scanners. 'ecording starts at the eginning of the ne9t 1--minute 'esult 8utput )eriod 6'8)7 after activation from 8,,-'(. "he recorded data from all active scanners is collected in a common data file per :ain )rocessor 6:)7. "here are t!o filter parameters in 5)E1 to e selected$ 0e;3raction and (ell identity. 0e;3raction can e set to any value in the range 1<1000 and is the part per thousand of the num er of active 0ser E=uipments 60Es7. Based on the specified 0e;3raction$ an internal algorithm selects !hich 0Es events shall e recorded. &f an event is not related to a specific 0E$ the event !ill match the 0e;3raction filter any!ay and e reported. "he cell identity filter specifies in !hich cells in the 'N( events shall e recorded. Events !hich do not include any cell identifier$ also %no!n as common events$ !ill match the filter any!ay and e reported. "he parameter gpeh3ile,i>e determines the si>e of the 5)E1 files$ see 'nc3unction. ,hould the file reach its limit efore the '8) has ended$ no more events are recorded in the part of the system corresponding to the full file. "he scanner state is$ ho!ever$ unaffected and reporting from other parts of the system continues. "he event reporting from the affected part of the system !ill resume !ith the ne9t '8). 3or each :)$ the 'N( may store up to 180 files or a total of 100 :B. 8nce the storage limit is reached$ the oldest file !ill e removed from the file system. As long as the storage limit has not een reached$ the files may e stored indefinitely in the file system. A 5)E1 recording can e interrupted in different error situations. An error situation is indicated !ith the internal event &N"E'NA2;'E(8'/&N5;3A02" !ritten to the '8) file. ?hen the recording resumes the internal event &N"E'NA2;'E(8'/&N5;'E(8@E'E/ is !ritten to the '8) file. ,ee ,ection 2.1 for details of the internal events. "he follo!ing error cases may occurA P$r i$# O+er#o$& "he scanners for Event Based ,tatistics 6EB,7 are ased on 5)E1 scanners - 5)E1 scanner 22 and 2* are used for EB, - and they have higher priority than other 5)E1 scanners in the 'N(. &n case the load e9ceeds a certain threshold for partial overload$ all scanners e9cept EB, scanners stops reporting events from the affected :). All other :)s continue to report events. "his is called )artial 8verload and is indicated y

No eEvent reporting does not negatively impact traffic in neither a D)artial 8verloadE situation nor an D8verloadE situation. O+er#o$& "he error case 8verload is similar to the case )artial 8verload. ?hen the measured load e9ceeds an even higher threshold it is considered as 8verload. 2.2 Inter-Node Events


"his section descri es the inter-node events that the 'N( can record in 5)E1. &nternode events are 2ayer * protocol messages as specified y *rd 5eneration )artnership )ro#ect 6*5))7. 8nly the protocol messages descri ed elo! are supported y the 5)E1 function. "he recorded inter-node events hold only the information specified in this section. "he inter-node events can e recorded !ith either header data only$ or !ith the entire message content as received on the 'N( e9ternal protocol interfaces. "he parameter gpeh/ata2evel determines !hich level of information to record$ see 'nc3unction. "he default setting of the parameter is 0 B P1EA/E';/A"A;8N2CP. "he default setting causes less information to e recorded in 5)E1 - information that can e used for high-level trou leshooting$ such as verifying that all the e9pected messages have occurred at the correct times$ or chec%ing for failure messages for procedures. "he parameter may e changed from the default setting if more data is re=uired for more detailed trou leshooting. "he setting of the parameter to 1 B PA22;/A"AP should e done carefully. "he increased amount of recorded data !ith this setting !ill slightly increase the load in the 'N($ and the '8) files !ill e filled faster.
