La Universidad de Cambridge, en Inglaterra, retuvo el primer lugar entre las 300 mejores

universidades del mundo y aventaj por escaso margen a Harvard, de Estados Unidos, segn la
mayor encuesta de ese tipo realizada a estudiantes, acadmicos y empleadores. En el sondeo
slo figuran establecimientos de cuatro pases latinoamericanos: Mxico, Brasil, Chile y
Argentina.

La octava edicin del QS World University Ranking ubic en tercer lugar al Instituto de
Tecnologa de Massachusetts (MIT), que desplaz as a Yale y a Oxford, que culminaron cuarta
y quinta, respectivamente.

La encuesta, en la que participaron 33.000 acadmicos de todo el mundo y 16.000


empleadores graduados, evala a ms de 700 universidades de todo el mundo a partir de seis
indicadores: la reputacin acadmica, la efectividad para los egresados a la hora de conseguir
empleo, citas por facultad en investigaciones y publicaciones, la capacidad de los estudiantes,
la cantidad de estudiantes extranjeros y la facultad internacional de esa universidad.

MXICO, BRASIL Y CHILE FIGURAN POR LATINOAMRICA


Hay 38 pases en los primeros 300 lugares. Las universidades de los Estados Unidos ocupan 13
de las primeras 20 posiciones y 70 de las primeras 300. En cuanto a las universidades de
Amrica Latina, las primeras que aparecen son la Universidad Nacional Autnoma de Mxico
(UNAM) y la Universidad de Sao Paulo, Brasil, que comparten el puesto 169. En el puesto 235
figura la Universidad Estatal de Campinas (Unicamp) de Brasil; en el 250, la Universidad
Catlica de Chile en el 262, la Universidad de Chile, y en el puesto 270 se sita la UBA
(Universidad de Buenos Aires), la ltima latinoamericana que figura en las 300.

En cuanto a las universidades asiticas, la de Hong Kong, en el puesto 22, y la de Tokio, en el


25, son las dos mejores ubicadas.

Un dato importante que arroja el estudio es que el financiamiento gubernamental y privado


para investigacin orientada a la tecnologa est erosionando el predominio de las
universidades ms generales y tradicionales.
