Bausch & Lomb answers to your questions about cataract and advises you to choose the best Intra

Ocular Lens

What causes cataracts ?

Cataracts are a degenerative form of eye disease in which the lens gradually becomes opaque and vision mists over. While cataracts can occur as the result of other eye diseases, they mostly develop due to age. In fact, it is believed that everyone would have cataracts if we lived long enough. Currently, cataracts are the leading cause of blindness among adults in the world.

How cataract can be corrected ?

There are no medications, eyedrops, exercises, or glasses that will cause cataracts to disappear. However, they can be successfully treated with surgery.

What is cataract surgery ?

Cataract surgery should be considered whenever cataracts cause enough loss of vision to interfere with daily activities. The surgery involves removing the diseased lens and replacing it with an artificial lens implant called an intraocular lens (IOL). Your surgeon may choose to use one of the intra ocular lenses made by Bausch & Lomb.

How does it work ?

Typically this operation is done on an outpatient basis, under local anesthesia, so you can go home the same day as the surgery. While you will be awake during surgery, you will not have to worry about keeping your eye openand you will not be able to see the actual surg e r y. Although cataracts may develop simultaneously in both eye s, your surgeon will operate on one eye and allow it to heal before operating on the other.

SofPort with Violet Shield Intra Ocular Lens : A colorful new perspective on the aspheric advantage
A new shade of light-blocking technology
The new SofPort AO Lens with Violet Shield Technology preserves sight day and night by taking a new approach to blocking harmful light rays. Instead of blocking blue light like competing lenses, the SofPort AO Violet Shield Lens provides a defense from potentially hazardous violet light, without compromising low-light vision.

Violet light and phototoxicity

Spectral phototoxicity decreases as wavelength increases, so violet light is more hazardous than any other visible light (like blue light). The new SofPort AO Lens with Violet Shield Technology is blocking harmful violet light and in turn do not negatively affect activities such as driving or walking in low-light conditions.

What makes a sharp and clear vision :
In most of the cat a ract surg e r y post-operative cases, loss of quality of vision is due to the fact that light entering the eye, and passing through i nt ra ocular lens, is unable to be b ro u g ht to a single fo cus on the retina, resulting in blurred and unadequate vision.

Other Standard Spherical IOLs

Its the design of standard spherical and aspheric aberrated IOLs that is responsible for loss of vision quality. Only Bausch & Lomb is able to propose an alternative to this issue thanks to its aberration-free IOL technology.

Other Aspheric Aberrated IOLs

Aberration-free
Bausch & Lombs Advanced Optics IOLs have aspheric anterior and posterior surfa ces that create no spherical aberration. They are neutral to the cornea so are suitable for all pat i e nts, regardless of corneal shape.

Uniform power from centre to edge
Advanced Optics IOLs are designed with no variation in power from the centre right to the periphery. Performance is unaffected by optical misalignment or pupil dece nt ration. It results in predictable outcomes for all patients, and optimized vision in all conditions of light.

Bausch & Lomb Anti-Glare Technology

Clinical studies prove that implants with a flatter anterior surface produce reflected g l a re i m a g es. The result of this phenomena is that people fitted with these IOLs experience some kind of visual disturbance due to light (halos, reduced night vision, etc.). Then, in the more critic cases, explantation of the lens is required.

Other IOL

Bausch & Lomb implants have a steeper anterior surfa ce which l eads to lower light reflection i ntensity and optimal visual conditions for you. Ask your specialist for further information.
