PAW Kingdom Carnival KAMPAR: Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahmans (UTAR), Public Relations Students organised an animal welfare

awareness carnival PAW 2014 at the Faculty of Science Building (Block D) from 8am to 5pm on March 19. PAW 2014 brings about the meaning P: Public Relations Campaign A: Animal W: Welfare. The event was launched at 10.30am. The guest-of-honours were the President, Ir. Prof. Academician Dato' Dr. Chuah Hean Teik and Mr Chan Kwai Hoong, Perak MCA Bureau Chief of Program Khidmat Negara representing Dato Dr Mah Hang Soon. Also present were the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Science, Dr. Cheah Phaik Kin, Vice President, Dr Teh Chee Seng, Head of Department of Public Relations Mr Ng Eng Kiat. and Pegawai Kesihatan Persekitaran, Majlis Daerah Kampar Mr Goh Seng Chee. Others included sponsor representatives namely Vice President of The Ipoh Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA) Ricky Soong, Honorary Advisor of (ISPCA), Dr Goh Hue Lang, Representative of Malaysian Kennel Association (MKA), Mr Lau Yit Meng, and Managing Director of PETSTER Magazine, Mr William Tan Cheow Weng,. The highlight of the event was the appearance of Natalie Ng from 8TV as the ambassador of the UTAR PR Campaign Volunteerism 3.0- Animal Welfare. She was at the PAW Kingdom Carnival to interact and participate with the participants in a series of fun activities. According to Tan Yi Xian publicity representative the main reason this event was held was to promote animal awareness. This included protecting them and adopting them. The event was also organised to spread love and awareness for animals. On the day of the event there were several activities held. At 8.30 am on the carnival day a Charity Pet Walk from UTAR South entrance to the Faculty of Science was held. A fee of RM10 was collected from all participants. There were educational games too. The (ISPCA) organised a stray adoption drive. MKA brought about twenty Different types of pure breed dogs for the 'Dog Show Performance' and 'Animal Grooming Session' during the event day. The event was open to all. Three main attractions of the event were Discovery Island, PAWer Land and Hope Land. In Discovery land people could get information on animals, cruelty and protection. PAWer land consisted of outside media and resources. The dog performances and activities were held here. The pet adoption drive held by the (ISPCA) was held here. Hope Land offers participants a variety of fun activities such as interactive games and educational games. The group members managed to get sponsored and supported by Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO). They will be collaborating with the PR students throughout the

campaign. Their official NGO is the Ipoh Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA). Other sponsors include Malaysian Kennel Association (MKA), and also Petster which is Malaysias first free lifestyle magazine. The group also has an official media partner which is one FM. This event is a course requirement and compulsory for all PR students. On the publicity of the event Tan Yi Xian said that they have placed banners all over campus, distributed flyers and spread the message using Facebook. They have also held road shows. Prior to the event the PAW members had several promotional activities and programs. Some of the activities were silent protests, road shows, making origamis and placing them all over the campus. Food and accessories for pets were also sold at the carnival.
