My Mothers hands There is little information regarding Robert Fountain.

The year of his birth is unknown but it is said that he died in 1965. He became a writer of short stories and plays that turned out to be popular in the 1940s. The story tells us about a couple that has been married for decades and were still inlove with each other. A conflict occured between the parents of the narrator. They were arguing on a subject that took place a long time ago and both were too stubborn to admit that one of them was wrong. In the end, after the old man ran away, he returned home and brought to his wife a bottle of hand lotion. The ideea of the text is that there is not such thing like age for love, as strong feelings last in years. Even if the narrator does not understand how it is possible that 2 human kinds that lived together more that half a life, can still find something in each other. The example of the couple proove that even after many years people can still be together. Even the fact , when their son take then to travel, makes them want to go home. They prefere to stay together with their habitual routine. The main theme of the text is relationship between older people.Usually, with time, the relationship between people freeze and they start to be stragers. A person that was thought to be known, step by step is slipping away. The relationship between the 2 spouses might seem at the begging of the text like that. Even the son is wondering if they notice each other. But readint further the text, we observes that they have strong feelings of respect toward each other, that are enforced with the love they have. So when the man ran away she was really sad. Despite that the fact, when he returned home, he wasnt with his hands in the pocket, but bring her a present. Aside with the main theme we can encounter other themes like love of parents or of the child. The love of the child toward his parents is seen due to his actions. He is visting them daily for an hour, and chat with them in order to keep them with whats happening in the world. He is even trying to get them outside. We see how much he cares about them, and those are not just words, but real actions. The message that the author is sending us is that we should show our feeling to those we love in order to keep the flame of love. Thus if we daily surprise our beloved they will feel the fact that we care about them. Its not enough to say big words, its more important to do something that prooves your atitude for this person. The characters of the text are the mother, the father and the narrator who is the son. The mother isnt described to us physically apart just her hands. The author describe them as being gnarled and the veins are prominent and rough for the year of work. She is an emotional person, as she started weeping when the father ran away. One thing is sure is that both of them are really stupborn. The father is a person that knows a lot of working people, and rahter talkative. He is as stuborn as his wife but he can still surprise his wife. The narrator is described in any way, but we do understand that he loves his parents and will do everything in order to preserve their marriage. The title of the text makes us think that it will tory will beabout a mother and the hard work she had done for her family and how all this reflected on her hands. In the end we understand that the hands are just a symbol of the fact that the father still love them, the way they are. For him they are the same like velvet like when they met.If i were to pick another title I would choose-love has no age. The structure of the text is close and the climax is the moment when the narrator gave up searching for his father. As for a period of time he was finding the whole situation funny, now when he realised that his father isnt coming he got agitated. The text contains figures of speech. Epithets :Dim eyes. Simile : their live were as quiet ad the snow or the rain, or the rustle of trees in midsummer, hand like velvet. Methaphor life filled with twists and turns. Personally I liked the text and the way the narrator wrote about it and showed us that the life of couples is full of problems and joyful moments, but if there is love, they can surpass everything.
