Alissa Zalewski EDR 321 Winter 2014 Congruent Triangle Properties Practice Tentative date: May 8th I.

Benchmark/Standard: CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.HSG.CO.B.8 Explain how the criteria for triangle congruence (ASA, SAS, and SSS) follow from the definition of congruence in terms of rigid motions. CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.HSG.SRT.C.6 Understand that by similarity, side ratios in right triangles are properties of the angles in the triangle, leading to definitions of trigonometric ratios for acute angles. CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.HSG.SRT.C.8 Use trigonometric ratios and the Pythagorean Theorem to solve right triangles in applied problems. CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.HSG.SRT.D.11 (+) Understand and apply the Law of Sines and the Law of Cosines to find unknown measurements in right and non-right triangles (e.g., surveying problems, resultant forces). Behavioral/Objective: The learner will use multiple properties to find angles and side lengths for triangles. The learner will explain and interpret each property. The learner will understand similarity and congruent triangles. Anticipatory Set: We will begin the lesson by reviewing all the properties learned. Each table will be assigned one property and must explain and present that property to the class. Objective/Purpose: Today well begin by reviewing all of the congruent triangle properties we learned this week. I will assign each table a property and you are to explain and present this information to the rest of the class. We will then practice finding side lengths and angles of triangles using all of the properties. We will end class with a class discussion to prepare for our quiz tomorrow. Input: a. Task Analysis: i. Each group will be assigned a triangle property. The students will have 5-10 minutes to discuss and create a short presentation explain their property. ii. The groups will present. iii. Students will work independently or in pairs on several worksheets to practice the properties.

iv. The class will end with a class discussion about the properties and go over answers and questions. b. Learning Styles and/or Accommodations: i. Remediation: The lesson will incorporate the following learning styles: audio, visual, and kinesthetic. ii. Intrapersonal: Students can work on assigned worksheet alone if they choose. iii. Interpersonal: Students can work on assigned worksheet with other students if they choose. c. Method and Materials: i. Ways of presenting: Discussion, demonstration, and independent/group work. ii. Materials needed: Worksheets, calculator. VI. Modeling: a. The teacher can model problems from worksheets if students are struggling. Check for Understanding: a. Property presentation. b. End of class discussion. c. Circulating room while students are working. Closure: There will be a class discussion and review session going over all properties and any questions.
