A pressing moral dilemma that exists today is whether or not public and private lives can be coherent and

indistinguishable from one another. Countless scandals over the course of history have proven that many of the individuals we admire or respect are actually twisted or vulgar in many ways. However, despite the fact that majority of individuals have a separate private and public life, we cannot conclude that all humans act differently when in different environments. Kundera boldly proclaimed that there is always distinction between our lives in the comforts of our privacy and the public image we uphold; this statement has proven true countless times. Former President Bill Clinton managed to tarnish his public image when it was revealed that he indulged in a private affair with his secretary. Predictably, the nation was shocked and nonetheless Bill Clinton lost credibility in the eyes of many. In another highly publicized scandal, Tiger Woods, who was the most prominent athlete on the planet, was revealed to have had hundreds of affairs while maintaining his personal marriage, in essence a private, private life. As an immediate consequence, Woods lost millions of dollars in endorsement deals and eventually sought rehabilitation, to escape the hostile world which had once adored him. In these many scandals, individuals were revealed to have characteristics that are disdained in modern society unfaithfulness, dishonesty, lying so in essence, Kunderas claim proves true in many cases. Yet, it does not seem unthinkable for there to exist individuals who have a harmonious coherency with their public and private lives. Though it is very difficult to prove that one can unify the distinction between public and private identity, we are unqualified to make judgments on whether an individual is, in fact, a hypocrite in his or her life. It is certainly plausible that certain aspects of ones public life are actually reflections of his or her private life or true character. Jeremy Lin, who recently became a hugely publicized professional basketball player, appeared as an individual who was extremely spiritual and godly. When pressed on whether Jeremys religiousness was a faade or not, his former teammates vehemently rejected the notion that it was a faade, instead they stated that Lins Christian life per vaded all aspects of his life on and off the court. Michael Jordan, widely believed to be the gratest basketball player ever, was notorious for his addiction to winning; this addiction on the basketball court also encompassed his private life where he was shown to be insanely competitive at activities such as golf, ping pong, and most famously, gambling he was publicly revealed to have gambled large sums of money. All in all, one cannot truly make a judgment on whether an individual is acting out of a faade, or actually being true; however, history has shown that do indeed live two separate lives. Altogether, it is most probably that nearly all social humans have two separate lives they live. One must remember, however, that no single individual is perfect, and living a lie is an essential flaw that many live with. I imagine, it must be the greatest human virtue to live ones private and public life as the absolute same person.
