Lesson Topic
Into the Political Party System
Reasons:

More than 50 % of the two classes I taught are eligible to vote in the up coming Presidential election. More than 75% of Americans do not understand how Political Parties work nor do they fully understand the details in revolving the important issues.

Objective
Given the opportunity to work together in small groups to propose problem solutions after a two day unit, Into the American Party System, the eleventh grade Modern American History

students will construct a poster that will include the party mission statement and two issues the student feel are vital to the student developed political party.

Sub Objectives Mini-Unit #1:

Mini-Unit #2:

Identify the key terms and concepts in the current American Party System. Explain the general differences between the Democratic and Republican Parties.

Compare existing mission statements of school, companies, institutions, government agencies (ex. Walmart University of Alabama, Lowes, Republican, and Democrat). Compose a mission statement claiming the main ideas of the student created political party in an organized and pleasing manner.

Apply the terms and concepts of

the current political parties in the development of the three important political issues sleeted by the peer group.
Relate current American party

issues (examples: economy, environment, health care) into the blueprint of the student created political parties.

My hook was a telegram that I claimed was sent to me in the purpose of distributing to the class.

separating the students into groups for an optimum learning environment . Each group received a color name that corresponded with the color of there folder and poster board. Class 1 had 6 groups of 4 and 1 group of 3. Class 2 had 5 groups and 1 group of 5
