Subject and Object Pronouns


A subject pronoun is used in the subject of a sentence. Singular subject pronouns are I, you, he, she, and it. Plural subject pronouns are we, you, and they: I remember the day. We came to America on a boat. An object pronoun is used in the predicate of a sentence after an action verb or with a preposition, such as for, at, into, or to. Singular object pronouns are me, you, him, her, and it. Plural object pronouns are us, you, and them: The people were very kind to me. They gave us sandwiches. A contraction is a shortened form of two words. An apostrophe takes the place of one or more letters. Contractions can be formed from a pronoun and a verb. Some common contractions are shell (she will), hed (he would or he had), its (it is), Im (I am), were (we are), and theyve (they have).
