Safety Training Presented at State Conference


Libraries are usually thought of as quiet, calm places to study, but sometimes things happen that disturb that peace. The Safety Committee at Linscheid Library aims to address those problems and make it so that you can study in confidence, no matter what situations come up. The committee started in 2011 when librarians realized there was a need to make the ECU Emergency Procedures more specific to the library, since its open late and on weekends and employs a large number of student assistants. Legal students can rejoice at the new, improved WestlawNext. This resource is a comprehensive listing of major legal decisions, laws, codes and statutes. Along with this, you can find everything that cites a specific case or law, as well as all legal precedents which that case or law used as a reference. It even tells you if its still relevant or notflags next to different legal documents indicate whether the law is still in effect, if its been overturned, or if its made it to the U.S. Supreme Court. Type in the name of any given case or law and find out more about it, its history, and how it affected cases and legislation. If you have a more general area in mind, you can also search by topic. If you want to find cases related to taxes, click on the subjects tab, and then click on taxes to find all the subtopics related to it. Click on a subtopic and youll instantly find all the legal cases WestlawNext has about it.
