Van Kleef , On Angry Leaders and Agreeable Followers: How Leaders Emotions and Followers Personalities Shape Motivation and Team Performance. (1) The purpose of this experiment was to see what types of leaders are effective in the work environment. They wanted to see if the group members responded to mean looking leaders or neutral looking leaders. The groups and consisted of people who has a high level and agreeableness and people who had a low level of agreeableness. They measured each group motivation and leadership quality to see how the member responded. The neutral leader motivated more people with high agreeableness and had a better leadership quality then the anger leader. The anger leader had a better score with people who were in the low agreeableness group and had better quality. The conclusion that they came up with was the in a stressful environment that it is necessary to be a stern leader and in a laidback environment it is better to have a happy more motivating leader. This is helpful in understanding why Rick and the Governor had two different leadership styles that were effective for them.

Ruggieri S. LEADERSHIP STYLE, SELF-SACRIFICE, AND TEAM IDENTIFICATION. (2) In this experiment they had two types of groups which preformed differently. They had the transactional leadership model, in which the leader emerges as a result of transactions and exchanges with group members, and a transformational leadership model, in which the leader adapts to the changes and instability of the situation and involves, motivates, and supports followers in a manner consistent with the required transformations. (Ruggieri 1172). Rick would be a transactional leader due to the fact that he jumps in and gets his hands dirty and is right beside his group members whenever he ask them to do stuff. The Governor would be more of a transformational leader because he uses different motivational tactics to motivate different groups of people. He plays with females emotions to get them to follow him, he gives people in the town a safe location so that they dont mind a curfew, and acts as if he knows it all and whats best for other people to get the soldiers to do his dirty work.

Reinout E. de Vries. Leadership = Communication? The Relations of Leaders' Communication Styles with Leadership Styles, Knowledge Sharing and Leadership Outcomes. (3) In this experiment they wanted to see what style was best for communication. They had three groups of leadership styles: charismatic leadership, human-oriented leadership (leaders consideration) and, task-oriented leadership (leaders initiating structure). They hypothesis was that the charismatic leadership and the human-oriented leadership style would have the best line of communication with its employees, while the task-oriented leadership style would have the least. They were tested on the perceived leader performance, satisfaction with the leader, and subordinates team commitment. The task-oriented leadership style had a better performance score, the charismatic leadership style had a better satisfaction with the leader style, while the human-oriented leadership scored better with the subordinates team commitment.

The Governor was more of a charismatic and has a little bit of task-oriented leadership style which helped him to gain more people into his group and made things run smoother in the town. Whenever he asked them to do off the wall stuff they was more likely to do it. Rick was taskoriented and human-oriented because he told his group what to do and expected them to do it and he also took them into consideration. That is one of the reasons why he was reluctant to let any and everybody join his group.

David J. Pauleen, An Inductively Derived Model of Leader-Initiated Relationship Building with Virtual Team Members. (4) In this study they talk about how leaders should consider assessing the conditions, target levels of a relationship, and create strategies for the team. I honestly felt like the majority of this research was some bull but it did have great headline topics that would go well into my paper. Rick knows where he is at and the dangers out at the prison so he has assessed the condition that him and his group are living in. He also has the types of relationship with different members in the group. Certain members he respect and hold them on the same level as him and some of the members he look to for advice, and while most of the members he knows that he is the leader and they are his subordinates. He has also created a strategy that has worked for them. When they makes runs there is a discourse group for that, when they leave there is someone in charge, when they go on the attack there is a group for that. The same can be said about the Governor as well.

Darin W. White, The Impact of Perceived Leader Integrity on Subordinates in a Work Team Environment. (5)

This study shows the correlation between the team leaders integrity and the subordinates ethics. They had two different test one that tested the team leaders integrity affecting the team ethical behavior on other teammates and the other tested the team leaders integrity affecting the team ethical behavior on the team as a whole. The higher the team leaders integrity the lower the unethical behavior was. They found out that the leaders with the highest integrity had members with the lowest unethical behavior. Rick is know to have high integrity and therefore any unethical stuff such as shooting an innocent person or killing people and who are not harming them is not allowed in their group, while on the other hand for the Governor that is fully acceptable. That is why he can have people in his group that dont mind going on raids where they go and kill anybody that could become a threat to his group. When Carl shot that boy who attacked the prison and was running away was not acceptable to Rick but the Governor would have congratulated him for getting rid of a threat.

Matthew Baggetta, Leading Associations: How Individual Characteristics and Team Dynamics Generate Committed Leaders. (6) In this study they wanted to see if the more committed a person is does that correlate to how much time he spends with his group. They came to the conclusion that the more time a person puts into something the more committed they are. They asked the same question to several different groups of people to see what their level of commit was. Those who volunteer had a high level of committed as well as those seeking advance degrees and full-time employees. I feel as if this would be useful to me in this paper because the Governor isolate himself into a room where his daughter is, she is a walker (zombie). He spends less time with the people in the town and could care less about them. This proves that he is more committed to his daughter and hopeing that she is still in there somewhere. With Rick he interact with his group members and the newly members of the group. He has made a garden and took on the role as their protector, leader, and gardener. All of those roles are essential to survival.
