Im helping 25,000 terminally ill patients and their families every year

When she was taking those last few deep breaths I remember looking at you and you just said Go on tell her, she can still hear you and I told her for the last time that I loved her and I would never forget her. I dont think I would have known to say that if you didnt tell me, and I felt better because I was able to say it.
J, aged 15

If you dont ask you dont get

It can feel awkward to start asking people for help, donations or their time. Take a deep breath and just ask youll be surprised how supportive people can be.

Check out your dates

If your event relies on other people coming to it, try to avoid major sporting or social events, like the FA Cup Final. And also steer clear of the main holiday season.

KEEP GOING!
Our nine hospices improve quality of life for patients

I wanted to say a heartfelt thank-you for the wonderful way you treated, talked to and cared for my brother. He thought you were a wonderful friend and carer and spoke of you in glowing terms, and with a great deal of humour too (he worried you were working too hard!). One person can make a difference and that person has been you.

Marie Curies pioneering programme of palliative care research is showing how we can better care for cancer patients

Youre making a big difference

My wife gave us a team talk before we set off. She read quotes from families who had been helped by Marie Curie. It was an emotional moment that made everyone focus.
Iain Chapman, Ben Nevis 2006

The majority of people, if facing a terminal illness, would prefer to die in their own home. However, only around a quarter of people have that final wish fulfilled.
A lot of planning went into the event itself and we got a real buzz organising it. So you could imagine our excitement as the day drew closer and our delight when we raised a grand total of 1,770.

Dont forget that your local Community Fundraiser is on hand to help. They can give advice on what events have worked well in your area, offer practical support on things like licensing and provide balloons and banners to help you make a big splash. Just call 08700 340 040.

Fundraise at work with a cake sale, swear box, bring and buy sale, lunchtime car wash. Raising 160 would pay for a full shift for a Marie Curie Nurse in a patients home.

COME ON!

John thought his G&T days were over as his cancer progressed it became virtually impossible for him to eat or drink. I was determined to prove otherwise. I made up a G&T just how John liked it and froze it in an ice tray. Ill never forget the sheer joy on his face when the familiar flavour melted in his mouth. This is what being a Marie Curie Nurse is all about.
Jennifer, Marie Curie Nurse

Often working through the night, Marie Curie Nurses make it possible for people to live their last days at home, rather than go into hospital.
