J falei sobre esta classe gramatical em alguns posts por aqui: Preposies em ingls com lista e exerccios; Palavras que devem ser seguidas por preposio; Alguns usos da preposio BY; Hoje vou falar um pouco mais sobre preposies em ingls, mas de algo mais especfico: as preposies de lugar. Este tipo de preposio se refere localizao de pessoas e objetos em relao a algum ponto de referncia no cenrio.

Existem dois tipos de preposies de lugar: as preposies de lugar exato e as preposies de movimento.

PREPOSIES DE LUGAR EXATO

Um exemplo clssico de preposio de lugar exato aquela frase amplamente explorada por humoristas: The book is on the table. Neste caso, a preposio on. Ela usada como preposio de lugar quando o substantivo est sobre uma superfcie e est encostando nela. Outra preposio bastante conhecida in. Como preposio de lugar, significa que algo est dentro de algo. Ex: There is water in the glass. Outras preposies de lugar so:

below: abaixo de (antnimo de above); above: acima de, sobre, porm sem tocar o objeto (antnimo de below); near: perto de (antnimo de far e sinnimo de next to) far: longe de (antnimo de near); between: entre 2 objetos/pessoas/animais; among: entre mais de 2 objetos/pessoas/animais; behind: atrs de (antnimo de in front of); around: ao redor de;

opposite: do lado oposto;

PREPOSIES DE MOVIMENTO
As preposies de movimento so aquelas usadas quando queremos dizer que um objeto/animal/pessoa foi de um lugar para o outro. Nas preposies citadas acima, o sujeito fica parado. Quando dizemos the book is on the table, queremos dizer que o objeto est parado sobre a mesa. J nas preposies de movimento, o sujeito muda de lugar, seja por vontade prpria ou por ao de terceiros. Ex: We flew over the city (Ns sobrevoamos a cidade). As principais so:

into: quando o sujeito estava fora de algo e passa para dentro (Ex: The cat climbed into the box); through: quando o sujeito atravessa um objeto de um lado para outro, no ficando dentro dele (Ex:The lion jumped through the hoop); up: quando o sujeito fica mais alto do que ele estava (Ex: I climbed up the staircase); down: quando o sujeito fica mais baixo do que estava (Ex: A little child fell down); from: quando a distncia do sujeito em relao ao objeto aumenta (Ex: I moved away from him); towards: quando a distncia entre o sujeito e o objeto diminui. Mover -se em direo a algo ou algum (Ex: He walked towards her); across: mostra que o sujeito cruzou uma linha que era transversal a outro objeto.
