m in SK Matang The issue that I am focusing this time is the co-curriculum in SK Matang. This school is actually a very lovely school with lovely staff and students in it. However, there are also some issues that they have been facing till the time I came for practicum. First of all, lack of facilities for students to have their extra-curricular activities. I feel bad for the students for they have to play different sports at the same field. For example, handball, volleyball, netball and football share the same field. Thus making the field crowded with students which result in students playing their sports at a limited space. Teachers were helpless due to the lack of facilities. However, they are still able to conduct the curriculum activities. If this problem continues, students end up learning nothing but having fun playing with balls. The main reason of this problem is lack of financial support from the government and lack of effort made by the school to increase in terms of financial. This problem can be solved by organizing the extra curricular in such a way that not all sports activities happen on the same day. For example, students who took part in handball and volleyball will come on Monday afternoon, while the students who take other sport activities can come on Tuesday afternoon. Besides lack of facilities, the school organized the extra curricular activities at 1:30pm to 2:30pm every Wednesday. For me, the time is not ideal for primary school students. During this time, students were not supposed to be exposed under the sun. The danger of being under the sun either at a young age or old age will damage the skin. In long terms students might get skin cancer or other diseases. This should be taken into consideration by the Head of Co-curriculum. The ideal time for outdoor activities for primary school students is best after 4pm. Other than that, I noticed that some teachers were not making an effort to help students in sports, especially female teachers. I understand that they are already at a certain age and should not be having too vigorous exercise. But at least show the correct techniques in handball game if they are handling a group of students who took handball as their co-curriculum activity. Most of the teachers were just stand under the shed and talk to each other. For example, teacher who handle handball, teacher who handle netball and volleyball, will gather under a tree and chit chat instead of showing the correct techniques for the sports that they are handling. I wonder if they actually go for exercise or simple yoga to keep them healthy before teaching an outdoor activity.

Being a young and fresh teacher trainee, I realized that being a teacher is not only teaching an academic subject. It is a holistic kind of profession. If we do not know about other things other than our expertise, we must make an effort to search for the answer and to develop more holistically no matter what age we are in. The sky is the limit!!
