The Bible The Bible is a collection of 66 books written by about 40 authors, in three different languages, on three different continents.

This means that the Bible claims to be from God and that it is without error in everything it addresses. This compilation of booklets contains an astonishing variety of literary styles. It provides many stories about the lives of good and bad people, about battles and journeys, about the life of Jesus along with letters written to groups of Christians that met in homes. It comes to us in narratives and dialogues, in proverbs and parables, in songs and allegories, in history and prophecy. There is no one person that wrote the Bible. Basically, the five first books of the Old Testament are older than the same writing. Initially, the bible was transmitted in an oral way generation to generation and when the writing was developed by the civilization, the words were reflected in papyrus. The rest of the books were added one by one over the centuries. 20 or 30 years after the death of Jesus some disciples wrote the new testament in Hebrew and Greek. The Bible is divided in two main books which correspond to the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament involves the scriptures which were written by the prophets and it describes the life before Christ including the creation of the world. The New Testament concerns the scriptures which were written by the apostles and it relates the life after Christ. It includes the life, ministry and death of Jesus and the end of the world, among others. The Old Testament is divided in 39 books and the New Testament is divided in 27 books.

The Bible was not written in one specific year or in a single location and the earliest ones were set down nearly 3500 years ago. The first five books of the Old Testament was written by Moses in 1450 - 1410 B.C. and the entire book was compiled between 1000-300 B.C. The New Testament was written during a much shorter period, i.e. during the last half of the first century AD. The New Testament was written in 325 AD which was when the council of Nicea officially recognized the New Testament. By then, early Christians had known and been reading the New Testament as the word of God already for 200 years. All the biblical books were written for specific purposes other than maintaining a historical record, the Bible was written by people who had been called by God to hold his people accountable to the covenant, and who were responsible to proclaim messages that were to affect the way people lived their lives, thought their thoughts, performed their actions, and felt their feelings. The Christianity and the Bible To understand the relation between these two concepts, it is need to explain Christianity from different perspectives. First of all the Christians believe in Jesus Christ who is the Son of God and this was send to earth to save humanity from the consequences of its sins. One of the most important concepts is the Crucifixion where Jesus gave his life on the Cross and on the third day he raised from the dead. The relation between the Bible and Christianity is that the holly book, The Bible, professes the life, experiences and miracles of Jesus in the New Testament. Nowadays the Christians use this book as a guideline for their own traditions related to the New and Old Testament an example is Easter, Christmas, and Epiphany among others. The translation work of the Bible At the beginning the bible was written in three different ancient languages, in the Old Testament it is found the Aramaic and the Hebrew and on the other hand the New Testament was written in Greek. The first translation was in Egypt in the III century before Christ. In this period the Old Testament was translated from the Hebrew to Greek. But with the spread of the Roman Empire, the Latin became the most important language in the old world, for this reason the Bible was in Latin. In the middle of the III century after Christ the New Testament appeared in several languages such as Coptic and Syriac. The Latin Bible was the version that the church use in the Middle Age which was named Vulgate. In 1280, the king of Castellan and Leon, Alphonse X ordered to translate the Vulgate to the Castellan because the Latin was declining in the Peninsula. Other famous translation was done by Martin Lutero who translated the New Testament from Vulgar Latin to German in 1522 and two year later William Tyndale translate the same book but in English. Nowadays the bible is translated to more than 5000 languages around the world.
