that population of Addition 1ills o)er the 275year period has increased by about 42$ percent. Another *a>or contributing factor is the presence of the railroad tra)ersing *ost of these barangays that ha)e consistently high densities. ,n the early days "hen the rail syste* is the popular *ode of tra)el, distance5"ise and tra)el ti*e considered, *igrants tend to arri)e by train, see+ing acco**odations as *uch as possible in the )icinity of rail"ay stations. ,n Mandaluyong City, until the (#708s "hen the rail"ay syste* is still operational, four /40 stations are located in 6arangays 3aang 6a+al, :an Bose, 1ulo and 6arang+a ,laya (, gi)ing credence to the abo)e obser)ation. 6ut in this case, it can be assu*ed that the *igrants established per*anent residences in these barangays, later e<panding to ad>oining barangays. 9urther*ore, the historic 2asig !i)er in its glorious days of stea*ers and ferry boats pro)ided another *eans of entry to *igrants as *anifested by a nu*ber of C'a"iranD stations along the ri)er ban+s. ,n addition, )arious industries lining the coast of Mandaluyong City ser)ed as a strong

'he Mandaluyong Choristers, under the super)ision of choir *aster :hiayenne 3i*aguilla, "ere recently billed together in a concert "ith yoy Eolante at the Music Museu*. Another ense*ble in the MC2A fa*ily is the Mandaluyong :tring 4rchestra, under the super)ision of Boshua Fegaspi and ,sidora Miranda /)iolin0, !o**el Ca*ba /)iola0, and 'heodore Ca*ba /cello0. 'hese four artists also *a+e up the Mandaluyong :tring Puartet. Aside fro* the :ight :inging and Gar 'raining *odules that are being taught to the scholars, progra*s for self de)elop*ent are also carried out through the efforts of operations *anager 48 eil 'orres and guidance counselor ancy Burado. 'ea* building "or+shops and indi)iduals as "ell as group counseling are done regularly to *onitor the child8s gro"th in and out of the progra*. 4utreach acti)ities to the co**unity are also being done by the MC2A through the 6ahaghari Concert :eries, "hich had eight concerts staged last year and "as capped "ith the a"eso*e Pa"@o "a ;angit at the Arand Atriu* of :hangri5Fa 2la.a. 'hese free concerts, other"ise called Cinfor*anceD or Cinfor*ation through perfor*anceD, had its season opener 9ebruary of 2004 at the lobby of the Jaban ng 1iyas. 7ith less than a year in operation, the MC2A *ade an e<pansion in the organi.ation of the ense*bles by opening a progra* for those "ho are in the (75$2 age brac+et "ho "ish to be a part of a choir. 'his ga)e birth to the Mandaluyong 2hilhar*onic Choir. Also +no"n as the Doro ng 0ayan, the choir is under the direction of Boshibiah de Buan, a pioneer *e*ber of the :an Miguel Master Chorale and arranger for the 2hilippine Madrigal :ingers. A long5ter* plan is also in the offing, to co*e up "ith the Mandaluyong :y*phony 4rchestra. Budging at the rate things are going in the field of perfor*ing arts, this is not too far fro* reality because the ground"or+ has already been laid.
