Activity 5.

2 Mechanical Arm Design

Purpose:
Learning to apply what is learned in a new context is always a challenge and fun to do. The project involves you working with a partner as you carefully sketch the components of a mechanical arm and make a 3D model.

Equipment:
Computer with Inventor software Engineers notebook Components of Mechanical arm

Procedure:
In this activity, you will be applying skills you learned in Lesson 4: 3D Computer Modeling and the early part of Lesson 5: Prototype Fabrication. Technical Problem: Your design team, which is a group of two, has been given the assignment to make working drawings of all the parts necessary to create this mechanical arm. The head engineer also wants your team to make an assembly drawing of the finished product. Your team will be given each wooden part and you will pencil sketch each part and add all the necessary dimensions. Once the sketch is completed, you will create a 3D solid model using the Inventor program. The 3D solid model will make it possible for you to create the working drawings with annotations so a model lab would be able to create a replica. The only parts that will not be drawn will be the syringes that youll be able to take from the head engineers computer library. Your last task is to make an assembly drawing of the mechanical arm once all the parts have been modeled.
