The Atomic Bomb was a very powerful weapon created during World War II.

Today, it is probably the most powerful weapon made and its effects could be very destructive. It killed millions of people and caused ecological disasters wherever the bomb was dropped in a short period of time in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. There is some very important information about the Atomic Bomb and how it was used that most people are unaware. It is very important that people know about this destructive weapon created during World War II and its very important role it had during World War II. There is also information on the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and the whole destruction it caused on these places. Thousands of people were killed in these bombings and all in the hands of Americans. The Atomic Bomb is a very powerful weapon that uses the splitting of heavy atoms to cause a massive explosion 1 million times stronger than TNT (Carson Mark). The Atomic Bomb uses Uranium-235 or Plutonium-239 as fuel for the explosion and these atoms consist of very high energy that may create devastating results when they react. In order for the Atomic Bomb to work there has to be a chain reaction that creates fission during the process and if the reaction goes correctly without any malfunctions the result will be a big explosion and no dead scientists while testing it (Carson Mark). There have been many casualties when testing these weapons and thanks to the lives of those scientists and individuals that sacrificed their lives for science, the Atomic Bomb today is much safer to use in battle when needed. The Manhattan Project was a United States project that focused in the development of the Atomic Bomb. The project started in 1940, thanks to scientists like Albert Einstein that showed how Uranium-235 could be used to create very powerful bombs to President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Later on Roosevelt formed the National Defense Research Committee on June 15, 1940 for scientists to develop the Atomic Bomb (Carson Mark). This was a very secret project

and of course the scientists prevailed and managed to create it. The bomb was tested in New Mexico and resulted in a huge bang called the Trinity Explosion that awed the people who saw it. The effects of the Atomic Bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki were very catastrophic. After successful testing of the bomb President Harry S. Truman initiated the orders for the attack. On August 6, 1945 the first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima by a B-29 bomber called Enola Gay. The explosion had an effect radius of over 580 meters and the force of 12.5 kilotons of TNT (Grolier.com). At impact the explosion killed 70,000 people and injured 130,000. By the 1950s the casualty rate in Hiroshima was of over 200,000 people (Grolier.com). The effects on Nagasaki were much less devastating, but still left thousands of people dead and injured. On August 9, another B-29 bomber called Bocks Car dropped another atomic bomb on Nagasaki, but this one exploded with a force equivalent to 22 kilotons of TNT and with an effect radius of 500 meters. At impact it killed 40,000 people and by 1950 the rate of casualties rose to that of 140,000 people (Grolier.com). After these devastating bombings, Japan surrendered on August 14, 1945 because they couldnt afford to take any more damage (Grolier.com). The Atomic Bomb is a very catastrophic and probably the most inhumane weapon ever developed in the history of mankind. The effects, deaths and destruction the Atomic Bomb caused on Hiroshima and Nagasaki were far from acceptable and it was a very abusive and merciless act from the United States during World War II. Many innocent people died, and the people that managed to survive the blast got radiation poisoning causing the rest of their lives to be a living hell. The image of the people affected by radiation is very disturbing and many

wished they perished rather than have survived the explosion and continue on living with disfigured abnormalities, suffering in the worst conditions a human could ever live in. The Atomic Bomb is the most brutal weapon ever developed and if used again in another war it could be the end of mankind as we know it.
