THE JURY ROOM- The Highlight Acting Troupe will present The Jury Room by C.B. Gilford on Friday and Saturday, May 2, 3, 9, 10, at 8 pm and Sunday, May 4, 11 at 2 pm at the Brunswick Grange, Rt. 7 and Rt. 142. The show is directed by Ken Ryer assisted by Christine LeVan. Ticket prices are $15 for adults and $12 for seniors and students. Twelve jurors gather to decide the innocence or guilt of a young girl. Did she stab her uncle in cold blood? Eleven jurors say Yes - one, a student actress, says No. The jurors agree to her request to re-enact the crime right there. Props are brought in - including the actual murder weapon. The actress becomes the accused. The foreman takes the part of the murdered man, and as the re-enactment proceeds, some people begin to lose themselves in their parts. It's a tense situation, for if the girl did not kill her uncle - who did? Could it even be one of the characters on stage? The verdict, the solution, and the climax of the play arrive together in a single, smashing conclusion! For reservations call Ethel at 518-237-6936 JOHNSONVILLE JR. Animals are not in cages or kennels. They are incorporated into Ellens family. I have a special needs dog (shes blind) and was worried about where to board her when I needed to go out of town. I was so relieved to find Darrling Farm. Ellen let me and my pup come for a visit first to see if it would be a good fit, which it was. She is very conscientious and loving and I find comfort knowing there is a safe place for my loved one to stay when I have to be away from home. Darrling Farm is top notch and completely fenced for safety! So be sure to check out their website or give them a call and help support our local businesses!

THE LOVING STORY- The Great Hall of the Salem Courthouse Community Center will be the site of an exciting new exhibit opening on Friday, May 9 from 5 to 7 pm. The Loving Story is a collection of photographs taken by the late LIFE magazine photographer, Grey Villet, and displayed around the country. The Loving Story depicts the plight of the Lovings who were married in Washington, D.C. in 1958 and returned to their home in Virginia. Richard is white, and his new wife, Mildred, is black. Their marriage took place in a time when interracial marriages were illegal in Virginia. Upon returning to their home, the couple was arrested and agreed to leave Virginia to avoid a jail sentence. The courageous couple fought this injustice all the way to the Supreme Court where a landmark decision in 1967 legalized interracial marriage. Gray Villets haunting photographs brilliantly document the determination and strength of the couple. Greys wife, Barbara, is a Shushan resident, and approached the CCC last fall about exhibiting the photographs. During the opening reception, the CCC has secured the rights for a showing of the documentary of the same name, The Loving Story. The film by Nancy Buirski was a contender for an Oscar and has been shown on HBO. This important exhibit will be on display until June 20, and the public is invited to visit the CCC located at 58 East Broadway in Salem. For additional information, please call 518854-7053.
