J. Reflection:

Strand: Geography

1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach? I think students will have previous background knowledge on moving since Las Vegas is a transient location. Many students will be able to make a connection with the characters and events in the book. 2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach? It will be key to ensure students make the connection between why people moved to different locations and how geography plays a key role. They might see the wagon trains breaking; I need them to make the connection that the steep rocky, mountains caused this. 3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? This lesson will flow into Fridays lesson where students will make the connection between natural resources and how human consumption changes the geography. 4. What can you do for students who dont grasp the concepts? I would spend some extra time going back to the maps and picture sorts from Wednesdays lesson. Looking at the pictures and asking open ended questions will help them make the connection between what they see and visualize how that might help someone or make it hard. I feel like I have made a pretty descriptive lesson though. 5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change? Maybe I could showcase some examples of quilts and work together to retell the story through the pictures. 6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part? Finding a video clip which would show a variety of geographic features pioneers faced and connecting the idea of natural resources.
