.45 (60 minutes) Number of pupils : 30 Focus : Language Arts Theme : World of Knowledge Topic : Animal Content Standards : a) 2.2 By the end of the 6-year primary schooling, pupils will be able to demonstrate understanding of a variety of linear and non-linear texts in the form of print and non-print materials using a range of strategies to construct meaning. b) 2.3 By the end of the 6-year primary schooling, pupils will be able to read independently for information and enjoyment Learning Standards : a) 2.2.1 Able to apply word attack skills by: (a) grouping words according to word categories

b) 2.3.1 Able to read for information and enjoyment with guidance: (a) fiction Objectives : By the end of this lesson, pupils will: a) group 8 out of 10 words into their word categories such as animals and colours b) write sentences by using the words given to describe animals

Set Induction : 1. Teacher shows pictures of coloured animals to the pupils. 2. Teacher asks pupils what animals whether they have seen the animals or not. 3. Teacher praises anyone that answers the question. Presentation stage : 1. Teacher takes out the Animal Storm poem. 2. Teacher recites the poem and the pupils will listen. 3. Teacher recites again the poem for the second time and pupils repeat after the teacher. 4. Teacher recites the poem together with the pupils. Practice stage : 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Teacher takes out the red paper basket consisting of word pieces of animals. Teacher divides the pupils into two groups. Each group must pick five word pieces from the red paper basket. Teacher asks each group to write a sentence for each word that they pick. Each group must send their representatives to write the sentences on the whiteboard.

Original Poem Be careful of the storm out there! Its raining cats and dogs And elephants and penguins, too, And monkeys, pigs, and frogs. There are horses, bears, and giraffes All falling from the sky. And look! There go some kangaroos And hippopotami! This weather happens quite a lot At least, thats how it seems When Im asleep and looking out The window of my dreams.

Adapted Poem There is a storm out there! It is raining white cats and black dogs And grey elephants, black and white penguins, too, And orange monkeys, and green frogs. There are brown horses, purple bears and pink giraffes too All falling from the sky. And look! There go some yellow kangaroos. And red hippopotami! This weather always happens At least, that is how it seems When I sleep and look out The window of my dreams.
