Group size for each session is 11 (minimum) to 15 (maximum). It is a good idea to confirm space promptly by phone: phone (302-983-7830, Newark) or e-mail (hbouchelle@live.com.) before sending the registration form. Groups can fill rapidly. The cost is $125. Parents must provide transportation. The astronomy camp Lead Teacher is Hank Bouchelle, Ed.D., astronomy professor at the University of Delaware, and co-lead of the Mount Cuba Astronomy Group (http://www.physics.udel.edu/mcao/Astronomy_Group.htm). The Grail of any pedagogy is a demonstration of math/science connections. Many summer camp lessons/activities will employ math and measurement, and math as a useful non-threatening tool. In general, student activities are keyed to current state science standards and to the current development of STEM (science/technology/engineering/mathematics) frameworks. Observing phenomena; noting changes on Earth in the sky; creating star maps; introduction to colors of stars; tracing shadows Exploring seasonal changes on Earth and in the sky; noting, gathering and reporting data; predicting outcomes Determining the velocity of Solar System objects;

measuring the Suns power; observing Moon-related phenomena When possible, students will observe and photograph events related to astronomy, especially the Moon, to retain for further reference. A concluding Family Night observing party is scheduled for the last day of camp, Friday, June 27 at 8 pm. More detailed information will be provided as the evening approaches and weather conditions are known.
